The Colorado Racing News The Monthly e-Newsletter of the ACA

October 2011

Boulder Peak

Greetings!

September was a month of transitions, affirmation and surprises for many of us.  The change of seasons, the start of the school year, the skinny knobby tires - this is how many  of us mark the seasons in our lives.  I hope everyone can get out and enjoy the beautiful Colorado fall!

In the last few weeks, we've seen the power of the Colorado cycling community in action:

1- a great and super fun 2011 Road Awards Party,
2- successful, fun and friendly mid-week races,
3- the importance of Colorado's bicycle industry and advocacy organizations was on display at Interbike,
4- the incredible numbers of Colorado juniors at cross races, off-road races, and our Junior Cross Camp,
5- the confirmation from our clubs that the ACA is working in the best interests of our members.

Is there work to do?  Yes - always.  The ACA is committed to continual improvement and high standards so that we may provide the best racing experience for our members and cyclists in Colorado.

October marks the 8th month that I have worked for the ACA, and I am continually amazed at the energy, support and commitment from so many great people.  Our staff, board, officials, promoters, clubs, racers, and volunteers - Thank you all for what you do to make our organization so responsive to our members and ready to take on upcoming challenges.

Thanks for reading, and see you at the races!

Chris

Please watch the ACA website, Facebook, twitter, and our weekly updates for the latest in ACA happenings, and as always, you can find all the race details on the ACA event calendar.   Thanks for sharing this e-newsletter with your friends and family.

Pre-Registration

"We are very excited about the great attendance we are having this cross season!  Larger fields also mean longer lines on race day registration and that in turn can add stress to an already tight schedule.  In an effort to make your race day less stressful, why not get the registration line out of the way by pre-registering?

Please take a look at the pre registration options on the race flyers and take advantage of them. Junior racers will especially benefit from pre registering. Being the first ones to start, the process is easier when all you have to do is pick up a number and sign a pre printed release. Have a great day and see you at the races!"

This message was provided by an ACA official and is wholeheartedly endorsed by the ACA.

For most Saturday races, pre-reg closes at 11:59pm on Thursday.

For more Sunday races, pre-reg closes at 11:59pm on Friday.

Save money on late fees!  Pre-register!

As always, see the race flyer for full details.

USAC

The ACA has proceeded very deliberately in our dialogue with and regarding USAC.  Two months ago, we created and distributed our position statement, financial information, comparison of services, and a table that shows the composition of our membership.  Steve Johnson (CEO of USAC) shared the USAC position in an open letter to Colorado racers.  All of this information is publicly available on 303cycling.com.

The ACA then conducted a survey of our active clubs. The results of the Club Survey are finalized and available here.

The ACA Board of Directors has made a recommendation based on these results.  This recommendation can be found here.

Please note that any change to the ACA's structure or bylaws needs to be voted on by the clubs at either the 2011 Annual Meeting (held in December) or a meeting called specifically to discuss this topic.

Juniors and Cross

The 2011 Junior Cross Camp will be held the weekend of October 1 & 2 at the Dawson School near Lafayette.  Price will be $50 for the weekend, which includes food, lodging, coaching, mix1 products, giveaways, and tons of fun!  Registration will open on Madsync this week.  We've got a record 101 kids signed up for this great experience!

A rapidly growing part of the racing community (250 kids at the first race) is the Colorado High School Cycling League.  The ACA honors CHSCL licenses, so these kids race free in junior categories at ACA events.  Please note:  in order to be counted for ACA points competitions (such as Cross Cup), riders must be current ACA members.  Let's encourage these kids to try ACA racing - for free!

The Timing System for the 2011 Cross Season

All Cross Cup Events (which start October 1 in Frisco) will use the timing system.  If you have one bike, you can certainly attach your timing chip to the front of your bike (as shown in these photos).

Please note:  riders without chips, or chips that are attached incorrectly, will not see their preliminary results and will not see their race times.

ACA Meetings, Legislation and Board Elections

Some important dates:

10/5 - Promoters Meeting - Colorado Mountain Club - 633 South Broadway #N - located northwest of Neptune Mountaineering in the Table Mesa Shopping Center in Boulder

10/15 - Legislation and Board Nominations due to Yvonne

11/12- Legislation and Board Nominations posted to ACA website

December - Annual Meeting (date and location TBD)

Board of Directors

Also on tap, 5 of 10 seats on the ACA Board of Directors will be up for election/re-election in December. If you or someone you know would like to take a more active role in the Association, please consider running for the Board. A good starting place would be talking with some our current board members about their experience.
