Boulder Peak

Greetings!

It's mid-summer, the days are long and the racing is hot (sure it's a cliche, but it's true, too).

This month's schedule shows the quality, diversity, and amazing tradition of Colorado road racing.  While we're getting ready to cheer on the pros at the Big Race in August, we can take part in our local Colorado events that have contributed so importantly to American cycling.

These amazing local events include classic criteriums at North Boulder Park, Longmont, Vic's and BRC, a smashing new circuit at Candelas in Arvada, wicked climbs at Mike Horgan and the 46th Annual (46th Annual!  That is amazing!) Bob Cook Mt. Evans, mid-week speed at the CSP track, and a beautiful mountain setting for the Salida Classic.

What other state can boast this kind of line-up?  Not only do these events provide great experiences for our members and racers in our area, but the depth and tradition of our racing has helped produce many great American racers.  Don't doubt for a moment that we are part of something special here in the ACA.

Please watch the ACA website, Facebook, twitter, and our weekly updates for the latest in ACA happenings, and as always, you can find all the race details on the ACA event calendar.

membership for your investment in junior cycling.

See you next year!

Our Relationship with USAC

As many of you know, our relationship with USAC can be contentious at times.  While both organizations are working to improve cycling in Colorado and the USA, problems can arise between us.  USAC's decision to enforce UCI Code 1.2.019, which bans UCI professionals from racing in "non-sanctioned" (ie non-USAC events) has put a strain on our relationship. The ACA has been working over the last two months to improve this relationship for the benefit of our members and Colorado cycling.  Here is what we've been doing:

1- By working with and listening to promoters, officials, clubs and racers, we continue to offer our members the best racing experience possible.
2- We are engaging USAC leadership in meaningful discussions about how to best proceed over both the short- and long-term.
3- We are coordinating our efforts with the other independent sanctioning bodies in the USA (who are organized under the FIAC umbrella).
4- We are communicating with representatives from USOC who can provide insight into our particular situation.
5- We are communicating with leaders in American cycling to gather their input and support.
6- We are exploring our legal options.

This is not a simple issue and thus far there have been no easy answers.  Please contact me if you have suggestions.

The Timing System

We have made significant progress with the timing system in the last six weeks.  With new hardware in place, new power sources and filters, and a better understanding of the software, we are bringing the system up to our race standards.

This would not be possible without the dedication and hard work of many people, most of all Doug Ashbaugh of D & L Sound.  Thank you Doug, and thank you ACA members for your patience as we learn the ins and outs of this new system.

Please note: the timing system will be in use at all upcoming BAR/BAT races. Please bring your chip and tell your teammates and friends.  You can read more at this link.
