Tricia Downing Book Signing
During the 2000 cycling season, Tricia Downing was a typical ACA member, participating in the Cherry Creek Time Trial series, a variety of local road races and criteriums, and out-of-state competitions. But at the end of the season, on September 17, 2000, Tricia's life took a detour. While returning from a training ride to Lookout Mountain, Tricia was struck by a car as she rode along 32nd Avenue in Golden and was instantly paralyzed from the chest down. Tricia spent four months in the hospital healing and learning to live life from a wheelchair. As a competitive cyclist losing the use of her legs was devastating on many accounts, but Tricia rebounded by returning to her athletic roots. She learned to ride a handcycle and push a racing chair and now competes in the sport of triathlon. She is recognized nationally as a pioneer in women's wheelchair triathlon and is the first female paraplegic to complete an Ironman triathlon. She still remains active in the Denver cycling scene as a member of the Defined Fitness Training team and participates regularly in the Karen Hornbostel Memorial Time Trial.

Tricia has written a memoir about her experiences from cycling to accident and her return to sports. Her book Cycle of Hope: A Journey from Paralysis to Possibility debuts this month (June 2010). Please join her for a book signing on Saturday, July 10th from 1-3 p.m., at Treads Bicycle Outfitters at 3234 South Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, 80227.
