We Still Need Family Promise Volunteers!
Family Promise is a wonderful new agency that houses families in need in various houses of worship throughout Orange County. Families will stay at each faith community for one week, once per quarter. Our week to host begins THIS Sunday. We are still looking for volunteers who will serve as overnight hosts... Your job is to show up at 9:00 p.m., spend the night at St. Mark (being present in case of an emergency or for other needs), then set out items for families to make their own breakfast. You'll be finished by 7:00 a.m. the next day. Spots are available for Monday (2/6) and Tuesday (2/7)...
Please consider signing up today!

In our adult education series on Palestine and Islam, we missed hearing the Jewish perspective. To fill that gap on February 12 we will hear from Nina Berman and Susan Seely. Both of these women are community volunteers with the Olive Tree Initiative at UCI. Nina Berman was born in Israel; her parents were refugees from Russia and Austria. She served for two years as an officer in the Israeli Army. She met her husband, Jim, an American, when he came to Israel to play basketball. They married and settled down in Orange County in 1978 and have three grown children.
You won't want to miss hearing what they have to say
in Fellowship Hall at 11 am Feb 12.

Tables of Eight
Tables of Eight" is a great opportunity for members and friends, singles and couples to become better acquainted with others in the St. Mark family by enjoying a relaxing meal together in a home or at a restaurant.
This is how it works:
- Eight names are selected randomly from those participating. If a couple registers, they are counted as two of the eight.
- An e-mail is sent to each participant/couple providing a list of the members selected for your group with contact information.
- The first name on the list is responsible for contacting the other participants to arrange the first get together.
- If the group meets at someone's home, the host is generally responsible for the main dish. The other participants bring food to share (rolls, salad, side dishes, dessert and beverages).
- If the group meets at a restaurant, then each person/couple pays for their own meal.
- The group may meet for any meal; it doesn't have to be dinner.
- At the end of the first meal, plans for the remaining meals should be made. It is helpful to bring a calendar with you to schedule the next dates and locations.
Deadline to register is this Sunday, February 5th.

CALLING PRESBYTERIAN JUSTICE ADVOCATES TO WASHINGTON
TWO BIG EVENTS IN ONE WEEKEND!
COMPASSION PEACE AND JUSTICE TRAINING
MARCH 23, 2012
8:30 am - 5:00 pm
New York Avenue Presbyterian Church
Washington, DC
Theme: Presbyterians and Economic Justice
In these difficult economic times which further divide our nation and world between the "haves and the have not's," it is necessary for Presbyterians to lift up the ministries that address these growing economic disparities. The ministries of Compassion, Peace and Justice of the PC(USA) are coming together for the 2nd Annual CPJ Training Day in Washington, DC, to educate Presbyterians on the role that the PC(USA) is playing in helping people to overcome and survive these difficult times. CPJ Training Day is hosted by the Presbyterian Office of Public Witness; Presbyterian Hunger Program; the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program; Self-Development of People; Presbyterian Disaster Assistance; the Presbyterian Ministry at the UN; Mission Responsibility through Investment; Environmental Ministries; Presbyterian Health, Education and Welfare Association; and Child Advocacy.
ECUMENICAL ADVOCACY DAYS
March 23-26, 2012
Doubletree Hotel - Crystal City, VA
EAD is a three-day training event on justice and political advocacy. It is an interactive educational training event that prepares people to go back into their community to be informed and active advocates for justice. Our informal surveys in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) have suggested that Presbyterians know a great deal about mission, but not very much about advocacy. Therefore, we partner with over fifty interfaith and ecumenical groups in Washington, DC, to provide this training for persons in local communities.
