Impact of Program on One Participant

Why is OTI important to you?  Ever since coming back from the trip, I have never before felt so educated on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.  As a Palestinian-American, being completely educated on not just both, but ALL the complex sides to this conflict, is crucial.  Through OTI, I am given the backing and the knowledge I need to be taken seriously. How many times will I be given the chance to speak directly to leaders in the region who are making the decisions AS WE SPEAK.  How many times will I be given a chance to voice my opinion on the conflict to an Israeli or Palestinian living in the region?  These are the opportunities that are given to me by OTI.  This is why OTI is so important to me and why I urge many to get involved.

Adult Forum for January

January 8th:

The Olive Tree Initative will return to St. Mark with some of their students who recently traveled to the Middle East

who will report on their experiences.

The Olive Tree Initiative aims to promote dialogue and discussion regarding the Israeli-Arab conflict. This educational student-led initiative is modeled after empericism - gaining knowledge through experience. Students travel to the region and learn about the conflict from a personal perspective, independent of the media.

January 15th:

Sandra Morgan, a friend of Bobbi and Jerry Dauderman, will speak about human trafficking in Orange County!

Sandie is the Director of Vanguard University's Global Center for Women and Justice and teaches Women's Studies, Family Violence, and Human Trafficking at Vanguard.

January 29th:

Vanessa Karam, a progressive Muslim, returns to St. Mark to share her insights into women's issues within Islam. Vanessa has worked at University of the West for more than 10 years as a beloved professor of English and Chair of the Department of Languages.
