This year the CASN is proud to welcome Dr. Patricia Benner as a keynote speaker. Dr. Benner's earlier work, "Novice to Expert: Excellence and Power in Clinical Nursing Practice", has been instrumental in transforming perspectives in nursing education. Her recent publication, "Educating Nurses: A Call for Radical Transformation", is creating a similar impact on academic nursing.

CASN Proposals accepted!

CASN is pleased to announce that the Proposal for the Integration of Palliative and End of Life Care Specific Competencies in Undergraduate Nursing Education Programs in Canada and the Proposal for Development and Implementation of the Essential Components of Bridging Programs for Internationally Educated Nurses have both been approved funding by Health Canada. CASN looks forward to building on previous work completed by the Task Force on Palliative Care as well as previous work done on the evaluation of Canadian bridging programs for IENs. CASN would like to thank, in advance, the Committee and Task Force members whose dedication will ensure the successful completion of these projects in March 2012.

CASN Announces the First Winner of the 2010-2011 Dr. Pat Griffin Award!

Monique Mallet-Boucher, a Senior Teaching Associate at the University of New Brunswick. A nurse educator for the past 26 years, she holds a master's degree in Nursing and Education. Monique is presently enrolled in the Joint PhD in Educational Studies at Brock University, in the Field of Cognition and Learning. The focus of her studies is on formative assessment and its potential to foster the development of higher thinking skills and abilities necessary to thrive in nursing in the 21st century and beyond.
