My name is Linda. And I am a procrastinator. Want to get my creative juices flowing? Give me a task I don't want to do. Like, tell me that I need to organize the piles of catalogs in my office. I'll agree with you and then I'll start to do anything but organize the piles of catalogs in my office. Suddenly, washing my hair, depilling my favorite sweater, or taking Coco for a walk become my top priorities. Well, at least that's how I used to approach things. I quickly found out that being a business owner and a procrastinator could be a marriage, but not a very happy one. So, I'm sharing my 4 tips for getting things done, especially when it's something you don't really want to do. Like organizing your office, for example. Reward yourself. I do this in regular increments and I set my rewards up before I start working. So, if I think I'm going to be working on a task for an hour, I'll reward myself every 15 minutes with something I like, like a cup of tea, a square of chocolate. But, I always make sure that my reward time has a limit of its own (say 5 minutes) because I don't want to get started on something else while I'm rewarding myself. Picture the end result. I like to visualize how my office will look when everything is organized. I'll be able to walk in the next time I need something and actually be able to find it! Visualizing how it will look and being able to feel that relaxed feeling of knowing I am organized helps me to keep focused.
Have a little fun! I'm always picking up little things that I'll use for organizing, but I always try to keep them fun and colorful. I don't open them until I am ready to start the project and then I have the extra thrill of having some new stuff to use. Like these cute paper organizers, for example. The Desk Daisy stands ready to organize an in box full of disorganized papers, while looking adorable and welcoming at the same time. And, these eco-friendly paper clips are actually made of recycled paper (and they are $2 off right now!). Recharging cords for cameras, video recorders and MP3 players can lay around in clumps or they can be organized by this friendly fella. Want a durable place to store your iPad when you're not using it? Check out these polypropylene cases in great patterns. Yes, a fun office is a productive office! Ask for help. If you're an independent sort, this can be a challenge. You probably want it done a certain way, right? I've learned that asking for help can be a huge relief and it can make the task a lot more fun. My husband (who is an organizing fiend) often assists me with categorizing and filing. I hope these tips inspire you to tackle a project you've been putting off!

Chemical-Free Spring Cleaning!
A "Better" way to spruce up your home...
We carry the Better Life line of cleaning products in our store in Suttons Bay and, because we sell them, we use them. We love them because they are all natural and, if you choose to do so, you can even drink them without a worry. (Maybe a splash of vodka would help!) The Whatever Spray can be used to clean....well, whatever! We use it to clean furniture, bathroom fixtures, and the phone. We think you'll love what these products do for your spring cleaning chores and what they don't do to your body! |
