Breathe In....Breathe Out.
We live in an anxious world. Worry about personal issues like jobs, kids, spouses, parents, and health can also be accompanied by anxiety about issues outside of our personal sphere (and control) like wars, oil prices, and bad economies. It's no wonder that stress levels are at an all-time high and people are being diagnosed with stress-related illnesses all of the time. How do you combat anxiety in an anxious world?
I found this breathing exercise in Spirituality and Health magazine. It spoke to me because it was easy to do, something I could transport when necessary, and it actually worked. The next time you feel overwhelmed by anxiety, take about two minutes and try this exercise.
For each of these 12 phrases, breathe in for 5 seconds while thinking the first half of the phrase and then breathe out for 5 seconds while thinking the second half of the phrase.
(I am completely) - (stopping)
(I expect) - (nothing)
(I am) - (doing my work)
(I trust) - (my resources)
(I feel) - (supported)
(I embrace) - (this moment)
(I am free) - (of the past)
(I make) - (my meaning)
(I am open) - (to joy)
(I am equal) - (to this challenge)
(I am taking) - (action)
(I return) - (with strength)

Whatever women do they must do twice as well as men to be thought half as good. Luckily, this is not difficult. ~Charlotte Whitton |
