Rotary Definition

Rotary is an organization of business and professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will and peace in the world.

Our Mission

"Doing good in the World is more than a motto.  It is our goal, our mission, and our reminder.  It expresses in the clearest terms why we have a Foundation, and it challenges us to reach as far as we can to do the most good possible with everything we have.  Our Foundation exisits to support the good that we can do through Rotary.  It expands our reach, increases our strength, and makes our service more powerful and more effective.  Because of our Foundation we can, very simple, do more of our Rotary work."

PROGRAM: Madison County Fair Board President and Queen

Amy Rogier, Madison County Fair Board President, and Alyssa Brecker, 2011 Madison County Fair Queen, joined us to talk about this year's fair.

Amy informed us that the fair schedule has changed this year to help accommodate the people that have to work during the week. The fair is offering more exhibits this year and has a new carnival company providing rides. There are cooling stations at the fair to help beat the heat.

Today is the kick off of the fair and is Senior's Day (65+). Wednesday there will be Disability Day activities. Thursday is Public Safety Awareness Day with CPR demonstrations, half price parking for police, firemen, and EMTs with ID verification. The Pork Producer's BBQ has been moved to Friday this year. Saturday is military appreciation day with active military personnel (with ID) receiving half price parking. Sunday is the last day of the fair and is family day.

Livestock shows, motor events, carnival rides and more are taking place daily. A full schedule of events can be found at www.madcofair.com.

The funds for the fair have been cut with the state only reimbursing 15% of premiums. The Madison County Fair offers $85,000 in premiums. To help supplement the funds raised at the fair, this year they held a chicken and beer dance fundraiser. The event raised $15,000.

The 2011 Madison County Fair Queen, Alyssa Brecker, also joined us. Alyssa is 20-years-old and a junior at SEMO. She is studying biomedical sciences. The highlight of her rein as queen was competing in the Miss Illinois Fair Pageant, where she won first place in best interview.

This year's Madison County Fair Pageant will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday. There are 8 competitors this year. Also being held at 2 p.m. on Saturday is the Little Miss Pageant. This is the first year for that event.
