| Rotary Definition | |
Rotary is an organization of business and professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will and peace in the world. |
| Our Mission | |
"Doing good in the World is more than a motto. It is our goal, our mission, and our reminder. It expresses in the clearest terms why we have a Foundation, and it challenges us to reach as far as we can to do the most good possible with everything we have. Our Foundation exisits to support the good that we can do through Rotary. It expands our reach, increases our strength, and makes our service more powerful and more effective. Because of our Foundation we can, very simple, do more of our Rotary work."

ANNOUNCEMENTS | |
- Next week's meeting will be held at the Madison County Fair - we will meet in the Sharpshooters' Club.
- Business After Hours is on Thursday, July 19, at Core Elite Tumbling and Cheer (behind school admin building) from 5-7 p.m. Everyone is invited, as Rotary is a Chamber member.
- Kevin Dewaele spoke to Terry Metzger and there's not much of an update on Henry. He is mostly home bound right now and would love a call from Rotarians. If you have a chance to call and wish him well, please do so!
- The Board approved the membership application of Tim McGinley. Anyone who has any objections has until next week to voice their concerns.
- Jim Rankin, Jr. told us that Jack Klaus is in rehab in Highland. He's not seeing many visitors right now but he is improving. Please keep Jack in your prayers.
- Car Raffle - There was an accounting mistake last week. We have currently sold 381 tickets. This week's early bird winner was Jerome and Carla Zobrist. Linda Jakel will check with them to see if they want another ticket.
- Brad Held from Highland Communications joined us to talk about new services and service areas. He also talked about new promotions, including free month of service for recruiting your neighbors and a TV giveaway to the 500th customer - they currently have 480 customers.

PROGRAM: Highland Farmer's Market, Jeanie Korte | | |
Jeanie Korte from the Highland Chamber of Commerce joined us today and presented about the Highland Farmer's Market. The Farmer's Market is in it's fourth year and is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and City of Highland.
The Farmer's Market is held every Thursday from 4-8 p.m. on the Square. This is the second year it's been on the Square, moving from its original location at Lindendale Park. The visibility on the Square is much better and traffic has picked up a lot since moving.
Deanna Harlan remains the Market Master for the fourth year and she is responsible for recruiting vendors. This year there are 10 full season vendors (they will be there every week) and many other part-time vendors (they are only there on certain weeks). The Farmer's Market is averaging about 20 vendors each week that sell everything from produce to baked goods to arts and crafts. Vendors must produce or make 50% of everything they sell within 100 miles of Highland.
One of the goals of the Farmer's Market is to increase awareness of the benefits of eating locally grown food. The Farmer's Market has 4-5 vendors each week that feature fresh produce. Produce items featured include squash, peppers, green beans, herbs, nectarines, peaches, onions, plums, tomatoes, turnips, watermelon, zucchini, cantaloupe, potatoes and much more. Last week's vendors were giving away samples!
There is one vendor at the market that is a certified organic vendor but most of the vendors use organic methods.
Another popular item sold by vendors is baked goods. Everything from cookies and breads to gluten free items and special order items can be found each week. There is something for everyone.
The Farmer's Market has cooking demonstrations the last Thursday of each month. The Farmer's Market is open rain or shine, go visit them this week!
Jeanie also added a quick reminder that the Street Art Festival will be held on August 4. If you're interested in participating, please call her at the Chamber of Commerce office. |
