Rotary Definition

Rotary is an organization of business and professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will and peace in the world.

Our Mission

"Doing good in the World is more than a motto.  It is our goal, our mission, and our reminder.  It expresses in the clearest terms why we have a Foundation, and it challenges us to reach as far as we can to do the most good possible with everything we have.  Our Foundation exisits to support the good that we can do through Rotary.  It expands our reach, increases our strength, and makes our service more powerful and more effective.  Because of our Foundation we can, very simple, do more of our Rotary work."

2004-2005

    PROGRAM: Kevin Dewaele's New Regime

Kevin joined Rotary in 2002 and didn't know much about it and was not very active at the beginning. The more he started to get involved, however, the more he realized the importance of the work that Rotary was doing.

Rotary has five Avenues of Service that form the Foundation of our Club activities. They include Club Serice, Vocational Service, Community Service, International Service and New Generations Service.

Kevin believes that community service is something that the Highland Rotary Club does best. He moved to Highland 18 years ago to raise his family and he is dedicated to helping improve Highland as we move forward into the future. With projects like the fountain on the square, Korte Rec Center, soccer fields at Glik Park, the HACSM building project, and now the new hospital, the Highland Rotary Club is helping to improve the community.

Part of Kevin's 2012-2013 goal is to keep improving and helping. He would like to see the Club identify and participate in two or three hands on projects this year. Projects the Club has done in the past include building a wheel chair ramp, cleaning up over grown yards and mainentaince projects that people can't do on their own. Anyone who knows of someone in need of these types of services should contact Kevin.

We will continue to track community service hours over the 2012-2013 year. The goal for this year is 5000 hours. Please report all hours to Mark Frey.

Another goal this year is to increase attendance and commitment to the social activities the club had been hosting on a quarterly basis. Many have had poor attendance and we've even had to cancel some in the recent past. Kevin would like to see us bring these back and increase attendance.

Kevin's goal for membership over the next year is to net three members by the end of his term as president. We will be introducing a new membership drive incentive. The Club will establish a $100 pot that will be added to anytime a new member is approved. All those who did not recruit a member will pay $1 to the pot. The person who did recruit the member will have a chance to draw to win the pot.

After 18 years in charge of the Foundation, Adrian Rogier is passing reins to Terry Lammers. Last year the Rotary Foundation donated $168M to causes like health and hunger programs, scholar programs and more. We support the Foundation by awarding two PHF each year and our Giving Circles. Kevin wants to continue to emphasize the importance of the Foundation this next year and hopefully establish a new Giving Circle, which is currently in the works.

While we won't be hosting an exchange student this coming year, Kevin's goal is to maintain the YEO position and to stay in the know on what is going on so we can bring this program back in the future.
