| Rotary Definition | |
Rotary is an organization of business and professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will and peace in the world. |
| Our Mission | |
"Doing good in the World is more than a motto. It is our goal, our mission, and our reminder. It expresses in the clearest terms why we have a Foundation, and it challenges us to reach as far as we can to do the most good possible with everything we have. Our Foundation exisits to support the good that we can do through Rotary. It expands our reach, increases our strength, and makes our service more powerful and more effective. Because of our Foundation we can, very simple, do more of our Rotary work."

Our honorary member, Glenn Meffert has passed away. Rotary will meet at Spengler Boulanger this Thursday and go through the visitation as a group at 5 p.m. Please meet in the upstairs room a few minutes before 5 p.m. to sign in. If you are unable to attend with the group, visitation is Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and again on Friday 9-10 a.m. at EVUCC in Highland with services immediately following. Please keep his family in your prayers.
We are looking into starting another giving circle if we have enough participants. We need 10 and only have a couple of names listed so far. Please sign the sheet at the back table if you are interested.
Car Raffle - We have sold 331 tickets. Last week's early bird drawing winner, Jay Boulanger, opted to buy another ticket. This week's early bird drawing winner was Anthony Zappia, a mail-in ticket. Linda will check with him to see if he would like to buy another ticket.
Next week Michaels Restaurant is closed so we will be having our meeting in the basement of the library. |

There was $634 in the 50/50 with 35 cards left in the deck. The three of hearts was pulled.
Phil fined anyone not wearing white socks.
Happy Bucks:
Keith Poss was happy that his son was OK after a fire and that his daughter just bought a house, so her condo is available for him to stay.
Ashley Donnelly was happy to present her mom flowers in honor of her last meeting as president.
Tom Wehrle paid a dollar to update everyone on Jack Klaus, who fell and broke his hip last week. He had a rod put in and will hopefully be back in Highland later this week. |

Maura's Closing Remarks
Maura's goals for the 2011-2012 Rotary Year:
- Establish a 3-5 year plan with future presidents to ensure continuity in club officers.
- Have the bylaws reviewed, redrafted and brought to a vote.
- Increase membership by 9% to 71 members.
- Improve our public relations within the community.
- Move club closer to EREY - giving $100 to annual fund of the Rotary Foundation.
End of year remarks:
We gave away a little over $32,000 this year to local and international projects. The committee put together a target for future boards to identify what avenues certain donation requests fall under so that we can be in line with the categories that rotary supports. It will also help up to plan fundraising efforts based on budgeting of donations. With that and getting the bylaws and constitution approved, all in all, I feel that this board has done an excellent job in pulling together to make our club foundation stronger and giving future boards building blocks to move forward with continuity.
Thanks to everyone on my board for their dedicated service. We've had several changes on the board this past year and many of the replacements were able to make some simple adjustments to procedures and reports to make my job easier. We've had a wonderful year of experienced board members' knowledge fueled with new member ideas which I believe has allowed our club to grow and strengthen.
Also, thanks to all of the membership for your continued support in kind words and dedicated attendance. It truly has been a wonderful year and I wish the same for Kevin as he assumes the role of president next week.

PROGRAM: Luke Harris, Destruction of Confidential Documents in Your Office
Fellow Rotarian Luke Harris is the owner of Highland Recycling and discussed the processes available for the destruction of confidential papers and documents in your office.
Luke discussed the definition of confidential material, including HIPPA laws that govern medical records and patient information. He also discussed the US Department of Justice's definition of confidential material. Finally he talked about what confidential information is defined as in the corporate world, which is any document that includes nonpublic information pertaining to a company's business.
Congress is currently looking at legislation that would mandate confidential information practices for companies. It would require companies to implement reasonable and appropriate protections of information and require companies to have nationwide security breach notifications. It would be like HIPPA laws for all companies.
How do you keep information confidential? First you have to identify the materials that are confidential. Companies need to have a policy in place about handling confidential information and train employees on that policy. Employees should sign an acknowledgment of understanding about the policy. Companies must then decide what information should be stored or shred.
Every company needs to test and verify policies.
Placement of confidential material containers can help encourage people to place documents in the proper place. Places like around copy machines, in the HR and Accounting Departments, Executive Offices, group work areas and dock areas are good places for containers.
Doing on-site reviews helps ensure confidential materials are handled properly. You can use a third party verification company or do it yourself. On-site reviews include doing things like policy manual review, making sure employees understand the policy, review the delivery and shipping methods of confidential materials, check the contents of confidential bins, walk the premises for security breach, dumpster dive to see what's being thrown away and then sharing your findings with lead personnel in the company. All partner companies should be reviewed, as well.
Securing confidentail information isnt' just a goal, it's a process. |
