Rotary Definition

Rotary is an organization of business and professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will and peace in the world.

Our Mission

"Doing good in the World is more than a motto.  It is our goal, our mission, and our reminder.  It expresses in the clearest terms why we have a Foundation, and it challenges us to reach as far as we can to do the most good possible with everything we have.  Our Foundation exisits to support the good that we can do through Rotary.  It expands our reach, increases our strength, and makes our service more powerful and more effective.  Because of our Foundation we can, very simple, do more of our Rotary work."

2004-2005

PROGRAM: St. Joseph's Hospital- Technological Advances in Healthcare

Dan Rojek, Director of Surgical Services presented on the topic of technological advancements in the surgery field. He stated that there have been great advancements in the past 20 years and that St. Joseph's Hospital has grown with these advancements.

Part of that growth is the construction of a new hospital, which will offer state-of-the-art technology in all areas, but especially surgery and radiology.

Surgery has shifted from an in-patient to an out-patient environment. The new SJH offers adapted surgery suites and equipment to help doctors and patients adjust the changes. All surgery suites will feature ceiling mounted equipment, which creates a safer enviroment.

High definition equipment is already being used at SJH and will be used at the new hospital, as well. Advances in technology have allowed for better diagnois, smaller incisions and quicker recovery times for patients.

Mel Long, Director of Radiology, presented on the technological advances that St. Joseph's Hospital offers now and will offer in the future.

Current services being offered with new technology and experienced profesionals include: x-rays, MRI, CT, Nuclear Medicine, Ultra Sound, Fluoroscopy, Bone Density and Mammography.

Good results in radiology not only rely on good equipment, but the people who are using the equipment and reading the results. SJH has registered radiology techs, as well as 7 board certified radiologists on staff.

SJH also features the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS). The PACS system stores digital images allowing for images to be sent electronically to doctors and other hospitals before the patient even leaves SJH.

More new technology is coming to the Radiology Department at the new SJH, including a Nuclear Medicine Camera, Mobile X-Ray Machine, Fluoroscopy with an Up and Down Table, and MRI machine. SJH is purchasing 12 new pieces of key equipment for the new hospital.

While we are all looking forward to the new SJH, the current hospital is offering quality care with new technology and experienced staff.
