Rotary Definition

Rotary is an organization of business and professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will and peace in the world.

Our Mission

"Doing good in the World is more than a motto.  It is our goal, our mission, and our reminder.  It expresses in the clearest terms why we have a Foundation, and it challenges us to reach as far as we can to do the most good possible with everything we have.  Our Foundation exisits to support the good that we can do through Rotary.  It expands our reach, increases our strength, and makes our service more powerful and more effective.  Because of our Foundation we can, very simple, do more of our Rotary work."

PROGRAM: Derek Schrof, Highland Elementary Landscaping Project

The Highland Elementary Landscaping Project is a community project to re-landscape the area outside and around the auditorium at the elementary school.

Currently the area contains weeds, stumps and loose gravel. This is a high traffic area both into the auditorium and on Lindenthal to the Fair Grounds. The project aims to fix both hardscape and softscape issues and has a three step plan. They have composed a landscape plan with an architect. Highland Area Community Foundation provided a grant as seed money for that plan to be completed.

The first phase of the project, which will take place over the summer, will be step one and two. Step one is to fix the drainage problems in the area. Currently the issues leave mud at the door and there is a funnel effect with water coming up to the door. One third of the budget will be spent on this step.

Step two will be the hardscape plan. There will be a fence installed, as well as sitting/retaining walls and raised beds to help control the flow of traffic and keep kids out of the plants.

The second phase of the project, and the final step, will take place in the fall. This will be the landscaping plan with the installation of plants, mulch, planters and benches.

The budget for this project is $15,000. That relies heavily on volunteer labor. Gelly Excavating has already been recruited to help with the first phase.

The group is fundraising and asking for donations from the community.
