Rotary Definition

Rotary is an organization of business and professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will and peace in the world.

Our Mission

"Doing good in the World is more than a motto.  It is our goal, our mission, and our reminder.  It expresses in the clearest terms why we have a Foundation, and it challenges us to reach as far as we can to do the most good possible with everything we have.  Our Foundation exisits to support the good that we can do through Rotary.  It expands our reach, increases our strength, and makes our service more powerful and more effective.  Because of our Foundation we can, very simple, do more of our Rotary work."

SARGEANT AT ARMS, Phil Hardas

There was $34 in the 50/50 with 52 cards left in the deck. The six of diamonds was pulled.

Phil fined anyone who didn't turn in fish race ticket sales. Carrie Adolph gave a happy buck for having found a good replacement for her at work and for it being her last Rotary meeting. Amy Stephan gave a happy buck for the New Hospital project being approved by the Illinois Health and Facilities and Services Review Board.

PROGRAM: Laura Gotthard, Foreign Exchange Student

Laura gave a presentation on her home country, Germany.

Germany has a population of 82 million people and is made up of 16 Federal States. Her presentation highlighted cities of Berlin, Hamburg, and Munich (which is famous of its Oktoberfest).

Laura is from Detmold, which has a population of 72,000 people. The area has many historic homes and is home to Detmold Beer Factory - which produces a beer that Laura doesn't care for much.

Laura lives with her mom, dad and her cat. She has an older sister who is currently is college. Laura played the trumpet for five years and volleyball for two years.

Laura had to give up one full year of school in order to participate in the Foreign Exchange Program. When she returns to Germany, she will have three more years of school to complete.

The thing that has surprised Laura the most about the U.S. is the distance between everything and how people have to use a car to get everywhere.
