Rotary Definition

Rotary is an organization of business and professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will and peace in the world.

Our Mission

"Doing good in the World is more than a motto.  It is our goal, our mission, and our reminder.  It expresses in the clearest terms why we have a Foundation, and it challenges us to reach as far as we can to do the most good possible with everything we have.  Our Foundation exisits to support the good that we can do through Rotary.  It expands our reach, increases our strength, and makes our service more powerful and more effective.  Because of our Foundation we can, very simple, do more of our Rotary work."

2004-2005

Weekly meetings are held on Tuesday's at Michaels at 415 Broadway.
INTRO

President, Maura Donnelly, opened the meeting leading the Pledge of Allegiance and followed in prayer by Len Daiber.

 ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Rotary Business After Hours was a huge success.  There were 60 chamber members and 24 Rotarians present.  We have 6 prospective new members.  Thanks so much to the committee (Cliff, Carrie, Holli, Kevin, and Tom) for pulling this together and covering all the details.  I received a lot of compliments and I believe we conveyed Rotary's message of who we are and what we do to everyone there.
  • Big News...on January 17th, Rotary International released that it has met raising the $200 million requirement for Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation fulfilling their pledge of $355 million.  In addition, the Gates Foundation pledged an additional $50 million for raising the funds 5 months earlier.  To date Rotarians have given over a billion dollars towards eradicating polio.
  • Holli has fantastic Rotary shirts and jackets available for sale to help promote Rotary to the community.  See her for details.

PAUL HARRIS FELLOW PRESENTATION

SARGEANT AT ARMS, Phil Hardas

There was $1189 in the 50/50 and Carrie drew the K of Spades...oh so close.

Phil gave privileges to Tom Wherle to be the honorary fine master today and he chose to fine everyone who did not attend the Busines After Hours last week.  Phil also fined everyone who did not say hello to him as he greeted them at the door.

Luke shared two happy bucks for him and his company recently being certified as a "Secured Destruction Specialists."  Luke was also reminded that anyone who promotes their business by name receives an additional fine!

Carrie gave a promo buck for Trivia Night for the Pregnancy Care Center of Highland.  The Trivia Night has been rescheduled for February 3rd at the KC Hall.  10 people/table at $10/person.  Bring own snacks and buy drinks on site.  Carrie asked if you had a table to confirm that you will still be in attendance as well as know that there is still time to reserve a table!

Bill gave a promo buck for the Hard Road Theatre show the next two weekends, "I love you because."  Shows are on Friday, Saturday and Sunday Jan 27-29 and Feb 3-4.  Come out and have a great time with the adult themed show.

Tom Hill was happy that the Rotary Club of Highland continues to lead the way for the rest of the community as it invests into projects, like the newest $50,000 pledge of the new St. Joseph's Hospital.  He wanted to thank everyone for working hard in the past and for all the hard work they will do in the future to make this pledge a reality.
