Rotary Definition

Rotary is an organization of business and professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will and peace in the world.

Our Mission

"Doing good in the World is more than a motto.  It is our goal, our mission, and our reminder.  It expresses in the clearest terms why we have a Foundation, and it challenges us to reach as far as we can to do the most good possible with everything we have.  Our Foundation exisits to support the good that we can do through Rotary.  It expands our reach, increases our strength, and makes our service more powerful and more effective.  Because of our Foundation we can, very simple, do more of our Rotary work."

Weekly meetings are held on Tuesday's at Michaels at 415 Broadway.
INTRO

President, Maura Donnelly, opened the meeting leading the Pledge of Allegiance followed in prayer by Father Paul.

 ANNOUNCEMENTS

1) Bad News First:  Rotary sent out an email warning its members to be aware that there are a few email scams out guising themselves as Rotary awards or beneficiaries of large prizes.  Holli stated that the information that she collected is on our own private database and no one but members has access to the information.

2) Good News: Maura asked Father Paul to come forward and told him at the last board meeting that it was decided that we would give them a $1000 for their well project.  Maura also announced that it was decided that we would use the Fish Race funds to help with his educational project in Ghana (full story on this in this weeks HNL).  Father Paul Shared that he was very grateful for the contributions and partnerships.  He stated that there is a huge lack of clean water and they literally have to "go catch the water" because it is out of the running streams.  Many people end up with worms due to lack of santition.  One of the goals of his program is to bring education and Christ to the rurual areas of Ghana which is the poorest of the poor there.  This education will include basis life skills to helping to nurture their God given talents and interests.  He plans to raise funds for scholarships to the school and build in incentitives for them to come.

PROGRAM: Bill Pierce Memorial Golf Tournament Proceeds Presentation, Mark Frey Chair

 2011 Golf Tournament proceeds

Mark said thank you to everyone who participated in the golf tournament, the business commuting, and attempted golfers.  He reported that this was the first rain out and the vendors were very gracious so despite the weather the club still raised $7200.  A check for $1800 would presented to each organization.

Principal David Timmermann (pictured in his place above is Deacon Ron) accepted for St. Paul schools.  He stated that they would use the funds to increase available technology in the school as it makes the students aware of global community.

Officer Storey accepted on behalf of the DARE program and stated that these Rotary funds are the major source of funding every year. The funds go to purchasing T-shirts and for the DARE Dance.  He teaches a 10 week class on tobacco, alcohol, inhalants, choosing friends, and peer pressure.

Connie accepted on behalf of St. Joseph's Hospital Friends Van.  She stated that this is a free transportation service that takes to medical and personal appointments.  Currently they have 250 people on their client list and service up to 20 miles outside of Highland.  Their major cost are salaries and fuel.  They spend an average of $4600/year of fuel.

Lucy Henrichs accepted on behalf of Meals on Wheels.  She has been with the program for 11 years.  They currently have 99 people on their routes.  The serve lunch M-F including holidays.  One of the benefits is that it gives family members some security as they know their loved ones are getting a nutritious meal as well as having someone check in on them.
