Rotary Definition

Rotary is an organization of business and professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will and peace in the world.

Our Mission

"Doing good in the World is more than a motto.  It is our goal, our mission, and our reminder.  It expresses in the clearest terms why we have a Foundation, and it challenges us to reach as far as we can to do the most good possible with everything we have.  Our Foundation exisits to support the good that we can do through Rotary.  It expands our reach, increases our strength, and makes our service more powerful and more effective.  Because of our Foundation we can, very simple, do more of our Rotary work."

2004-2005

Volume 59, No. 7September 6, 2011
Weekly meetings are held on Tuesday's at Michaels at 415 Broadway.
INTRO

Maura opened the meeting leading the Pledge of Allegiance followed by Ron Hesson with an opening prayer.  Maura welcomed back Henry and Buzz!

 ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Board met last Thursday and voted to work through the Marion Medical Organization to dig 6 new wells costing $420 each.  Funds used for the wells come from the Dick Beckman Memorial Fund (all memorials received go to this fund) and the Phil Hardas challange funds.

The Board felt that it was in the best interest of the club to create guidelines for donation requests to keep efforts in line with overall mission and to have continuity in decision making, therefore a Decision Tree has been produced to aid in this process.

The Board also approved a $1000 donation to John Chase for his Eagle Scout project to build a handicap ramp at Silver Lake to allow access for fishing (Mark is also going to try to assist as a service project).  Donation was also approved for Art in the Park.  Lastly, it was voted to purchase a lap top for the Treasurer in order to enable her/him to complete their duties.

Welcome Laura!  She will attend her first fun weekend/orientation in Jacksonville this weekend.

The August District Newsletter is on the back table for anyone that is interested in viewing (also available online).

PROGRAM: James Kemper, "Cloud Computing"

Cloud computing is a way for people to share information and resources via the internet.  He stated that this has been happening for a long time and believes that the increase "service" of this product is a gimmick and that because so many data centers are going up that we will need a lot more power by 2015.

For a brief overview on cloud computing, view the following website (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_computing).  For more information contact James.

James also discussed the importance of data security and backing up your data often.
