Rotary Definition

Rotary is an organization of business and professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will and peace in the world.

Our Mission

"Doing good in the World is more than a motto.  It is our goal, our mission, and our reminder.  It expresses in the clearest terms why we have a Foundation, and it challenges us to reach as far as we can to do the most good possible with everything we have.  Our Foundation exisits to support the good that we can do through Rotary.  It expands our reach, increases our strength, and makes our service more powerful and more effective.  Because of our Foundation we can, very simple, do more of our Rotary work."

PROGRAM-Part 1: Scott Wick, Wick's Aircraft

Scott shared that business is going well and has been picking up.  He stated that the company has been very blessed over the years with just taking orders and not having to be salesmen until as of late.  They are now being trained to go out and make the sale.  Currently, Wick's Aircraft has 30-40 different kits to sell and thousands of parts.  He stated that a plane can be built for about $25,000 and 3-4 years of time for someone who wants to do it as a hobby.  They have also expanded their business to include motocross and steel poles.  When asked he stated that the love of planes came from his dad, who owned a company plan to travel around the nation.  He realized how much more efficient that it was and begin to build about 35 years ago.

PROGRAM: Carrie Adolph: Pregnancy Care Center Update & Follow-up Report

Carrie thanked all the Rotarians who have individually supported the Center over the years as well as for the club donation in 2009 to assist with moving expenses in order to make the new location client service friendly.  The club dontated $5000 which was used to purchasing 4 tables for the conference area, 1 table for the resource station, artwork for the Center, and the addition and furnishing of two counseling rooms.  Following the short program, Rotarians were given a tour of the Center to see first hand the improvements.

Carrie shared that the Center is continuing to grow in its partnerships with SOGA and St. Joseph's Hospital to offer ultrasounds to abortion minded/vulnerable clients and STD testing to at risk individuals.

Carrie stated that they are continuing to work towards enhancing client services and finding new ways to reach out to the community.  A large part of this is prevention & education events.  This fall the Pregnancy Care Center will serve as campaign director for the 40DaysforLife Campaign at the Granite City Abortion Clinic.  This campaign is peaceful prayer effort to stand in the gap for those that feel they have no other option but to abort, who are being pressured into abortion, for those working in the industry, and for the children being innocently terminated in the deception, for those who are struggling with their past abortion decisions.  Go to 40daysforlife.org and learn more about the campaign and its impact internationally.  *This is not a protest, nothing graphic or offensive, just people standing in prayer and going the clinics to be a face of mercy and hope.

Carrie also reminded the club that they have their annual 5k Life Run & 2M Walk on September 10th and that there is still time to register (Jennifer Whitten is looking for team members).
