Rotary Definition

Rotary is an organization of business and professional persons united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build good will and peace in the world.

Our Mission

"Doing Godd in the World in more than a motto.  It is our goal, our mission, and our reminder.  It expresses in the clearest terms why we have a Foundation, and it challenges us to reach as far as we can to do the most good possible with everything we have.  Our Foundation exisits to support the good that we can do through Rotary.  It expands our reach, increases our strength, and makes our service more powerful and more effective.  Because of our Foundation we can, very simple, do more of our Rotary work."

2004-2005

PROGRAM, Patrick Fenton: Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center

Patrick introduced his guest Matthew Frey, Donor Relations Counsultant.

Patrick shared his heart and urgnecy for the need for blood and told a compelling testimony of an accident he was in at 16 where he needed blood to save his life.

He opened by stating that  he has found that finding blood is so much harder than finding funds to support non-profit organizations.  Many people self-defer and rule themselves our from being donors.  He wanted to remind everyone that"Blood is medicine" and "Can't be manufactured."  He  also wanted to encourage everyone to allow a medical staff to evaluate if you qualify to be a donor.  He shared that a donor can give every 56 days and a unit of blood last for 42 days.  On average, a unit of blood only stays on the shelves for 11 days.  One unit of blood can save 3 lives.

Parick shared that the Community Blood Centers provide 45% of the blood supplied nationwide and the American Red Cross supplies 55%.  He stated that they are teh exclusive provider of all the hospitals (except St. Elizabeth's Hospital and Alton Memorial) in Madison and St. Clair counties.  He stated that the blood donated to the CBC stays in the community it is given to as much as possible.  Because of this you really can give life to your neighbors.

Reminder that there is an opportunity to "pay it forward" next week at St. Joe's from 2-6pm
