| ANNOUNCEMENTS | |
- Please keep Gordon Smith's family in your prayers as his father passed away on April 19th and was laid to rest on April 22nd due to extended illiness.
- There is still room for you to attend the Progressive Dinner on May 13th. Sullivan's will host cocktails and appetizers, Lammers main dish, and Whitten's dessert. Those attending will meet at the Whitten's and get on a bus and travel together. Everyone attending is invited to participate by bringing an appetizer, beverage, or dessert.
- April 30, Troxler Clean-up @ 8am.
- Mark Korte is looking for a co-chairman for the upcoming Golf Tournament. The date of the event is 6/17/11 at Highland Country Club. The co chair will help to organize tee signs, teams, and prizes prior to the event. The committee does the work to get those things, but he needs someone to tally things and keep it organized prior to the event. This person would still be able to golf that day because their work would all be prior to the event. If you are interested, please let him know. He will have his first committee meeting on 4/28/11 at 7:00 am at 9th Street. It should only last 30-45 minutes.

PROGRAM: Tim Daiber, State of Illinois Conservation Police Officer, District 4 Captain | | |

Tim Daiber was introduced by his father Len Daiber. Tim has a degree in Administration of Justice from Carbondale. He is captain over the 4th District and helps to oversea District 5 as well.
Tim stated the the conservation police have the highest legal authority and are the oldest state agency (1885). The department receives both state and federal funding. There are 120 in the entire state and have a small command staff of 5 captains and 3 sergeants per district. These officers are often known as "Game Wardens" but do much more. Because of their resources and knowledge of the terrain they are often called to help in special task forces. Some of their duties include:
- Licensing of outdoors men and tagging of wildgame
- Work with US Fish & Wildlife (duck, goose, and migrating birds)
- Assist in setting up barrier system of Asian Carp
- Patrolling waters, state parks, and public property
- There is a lot of river traffic in the barges carrying manure and chemicals (items could be used to make bombs) and if a bridge were down this could be detrimental to all.
- Disaster Relief
- Last snow storm they drove ATVs to rescue stranded motorists.
- Assist in rescues during flash floods
- Securing Ports
- Regular street patrol (warrants, traffic, drugs, DUI, OUI)
- Drugs are especially prevalent due to the rural areas that they patrol. Many also grow on state property so that they would not loose their property if caught
- Homeland security
- Purchase, Sale, and Licensing of Timber
Due to the nature of what they do and where they patrol, the conservation officers undergo a lot of defensive training. The officers are often alone and patrol secluded areas. Many of the smaller rural areas have anti-government groups that do not respect their authority. Even with these risks they have not had one death of an officer on the job in the last 30 years.
The department works with many other agencies as well to collaborate and cross train to protect SAFETY of everyone they serve.
