PROGRAM: Membership Welcome and PETS Report

Terry and Steve

Terry welcome Steve Schmitt and Luke Harris as new Rotary members.  Steve Schmitt was in attendance today and shared a little about himself.  He is married with two adult children.  He moved back to Highland 25 years ago and was so happy to take over GMC.  He said that Tom worked on him for the last 15 years to become a Rotary member and he is glad to be working with so many great people.

Maura and Wayne shared some exciting updates from their PETS (for incoming presidents) training over the weekend.  Three highlights they shared  is 1) With the tsami in Japan rotary clubs have started to respond by sending over disaster kits 2) Rotary International has set up a fund for Japan; at the conference an incoming president was very moved and shared a three minute speech and they collected 1575 and then was rewarded a $500 matching grant for each of the three districts represented and 3) Bill Gates is very impressed with the response of Rotarians and has decided to address the Rotarians at the RI Convention.

Wayne, Skip, and Tom also shared their experiences of hosting past GSE teams and encouraged others to do the same.
