PROGRAM:
Koda Henridrix & John Ross, Federal Probation Officers
| | |
To be a federal officer you must have a bachelor's degree, under 37 years old (starting), and be in good health among many other things.
There are two kinds of officers. Presentence and Supervision.
Presentence Officers handle a variety of cases from archground DUIs to terrism. They are investigavtive officers who file reports on offenders. They review the designation of offense, indentify the guidelines and penalities, victim impact (financial and emotion) and attempt to recover assets, offender's criminal and personal history, sentencing options, and then makes sentencing recommendations.
The Supervision Officers make sure there is a max adherence to conditions of probation and address issues of non-compliance, goal to reduce risk of community and to make offenders productive members of society, facilitate treatment interventions, and assist with employment, educational, and vocational opportunities. Strategies used are treatment interventions, family and community support groups, finacial managment assistance, employment and education assistance, survelliance program, special response team, half-way house placement, and community service.
Offenders currently average 39 years old, mostly male (93.5%) and are mostly US Citizens (74%). Drug and weapon crimes make up most of the case load with 51% and 15% respectively. Internet sex offenders and finacial crimes are an emergening crime trend. Their case loads can very up to 60 at times, but are recommended to have no more than 45 at a time. Currently John is working on a Meth farm case, a FEMA case where a women received money under fraudulant pretenses, and an Explosive Case where over a drug debt a persons house was blown up at Christmas time. In the federal cases there is very few individuals that attempt to just disappear when they are on probation and if they do they are located within a short period of time and imprisoned. |
