PROGRAM: Impromptu Angela Kim, Librarian | | |
Angela shared that they had an architectual assessment to see what was required to perserve the building (built in 1929) and continue to propel its services. There was a million dollars of renovations and updates needed. The first priority was "The Water Tightening Project." The City of Highland has funded this project including the replacement of the roof, cleaning and sealing limestone, and tuckpointing.
A year ago $10,000 was donated annonymously to the Library. Angela stated that these funds would be added to the Rotary contribution to renovate the children's librarby including, paint, carpet, and updates for ADA requirements. This renovation will also need Rotarians to put in some service hours. This renovation will further encourage literacy amoung Highland youth.
The next step will be for the reprioritization of projects and then apply for various grants, including matching grants due in February.
Their annual dinner is on December 5th for $50/dinner. This includes a wine reception, dinner, and entertainment by Peter Kim the classical pianist. |
