Nothing new to report this week.

PROGRAM: Tim Twyford with UPWARD Sports

"Sport for the right reasons!"  Upward is an international organization ran locally for 1st -6th grade students.  Highland currently runs a basketball, cheerleading, and flag football program.  Tim shared that the goal of Upward is to use sports as a tool to tell students about the gospel.  They focus on skill and character improvement.  Every team is divided fairly and every player gets equal playing time.  Students have devotional every practice and receive a star every game highlighting an area each teammate excelled in.  This allows for every participant to have a sense of belonging, purpose, and area of competence.  This encourages the participants to continue to develop their skills in a positive environment.  Upward also teaches students how to live out their Christian faith in all aspects of their life starting with on the court/field.  They would greatly appreciate more volunteers to help coach, referee, give half-time devotionals, etc.  Another need is assistance in providing scholarships for students so that no one is turned away.  Tim thanked Rotary for their past assistance in helping to fund the scoreboard.
