No Fine - feeling generous today.

Happy Bucks:
  • Lisa was happy that they had a successful Highland Alumni Association weekend and inducted new members into the hall of fame; three of them being Rotarians Roland Harris, Jack, and Biddie Essenpries
  • Phil was happy to have received a donation to pay for shipping for the "Treats for Troops" packages being sent on November 5th.  Needs list were distributed on each table and items can be brought to Rotary or dropped off to Phil.  Items included food, entertainment, hygiene supplies, sports and games apparel, and miscellaneous items.  *This could be a good way for your family to observe veterans day early by blessing a troop currently fighting for our freedoms.

There was $866 collected for 50/50 and it remained elusive this week with the 10 of diamonds being drawn.

PROGRAM: Laura Forester, SSM Healthcare, Female Screening

Laura Forester

Laura assists in helping uninsured and under-insured women receive the necessary screenings and treatments for breast and cervical cancer.  She works with Cindy from the Madison County Health Department to get women screened and referred to a local physician in Illinois.

General risk that 1:8 women and 10:1mil men develope breast cancer.  An assessment chart was placed on the tables to help individuals assess their risk of developing breast cancer; risk factors include age, family history, personal history, child bearing, age of first menstrual cycle, and body type.  White women tend to develop breast cancer the most often while African American women die from breast cancer most often because of late diagnosis.

Madison County Health Department serves about 1000 annually in this program and about 200 in the Wise Women program.  Wise Women program is a cardiovascular program that serves their breast/cervical cancer clients to help them to get gluclose and cholestrol labs as well.  A woman has to be over 40 and at 250% poverty level to qualify.

As always, a healthy active lifestyle with doctor check-ups is the best prevention for the development of unwanted health issues.

For more information contact Laura at St. Mary's Health Center at 314-768-8353.
