PROGRAM: PHF Awards and District Governor, David Parsons
Dist Gov Parsons 9-7-10

District 6460 Governor, David Parsons was introduced by Assistant District Governor, Wayne Steiner. Wayne announced two of our Paul Harris Fellow awardees.Congrats to Terry Leitschuh and Alice Daiber! DG Parsons also drew a name for the next giving circle awardee...Mark Reaka is next on the list.

Terry Leitschuh has been a Highland Rotary Member for 7 years. He served on the Rotary Board as International Chair helping us get back into youth exchange. He is married to Teri Leithschuh, together they own and operate a small farm and have Pure Bred Polled Hereford Cattle. Terry serves on the Madison County Fair Board as Beef Superintendent, is a University of Illinois graduate and obtained his Paul Harris Fellowship through one of the club's giving circles.

Alice Daiber is married to Highland Rotary Member Len Daiber. She is the former Alice Mueller from Aviston. As Mother of 6 and Grandmother of 23 we wonder where she found the time to work at the News Leader; serve for the past 25 years as Secretary of Missions International and travel to Guatemala  for multiple mission trips, but she has managed to do it all. She plans to go to Haiti soon with Len on another service trip. She received her Paul Harris Fellowship from her husband Len.

After the awards, DG Parsons gave an animated and entertaining overview of the plans for the 2010-2011 Rotary Year. He reminded us that the goal is to make Rotary Bigger, Better and Bolder and that "The World is changing, so we must be prepared to change with it". This quote was from Paul Harris himself in 1935, just 35 years after he founded Rotary. He realized then that without change this organization would not flourish. We are encouraged to get involved in District Meetings and District Assembly as well as International Convention (New Orleans in May in case you're wondering). Times and frequency of these meetings have changed to accomodate members' schedules. An additional Avenue of Service has been added - New Generations. It's been recognized that in order to gain new young members we have to emphasize hands on service, not just writing checks. DG Parsons was complimentary of the work we are doing in Highland Rotary and encourages our participation at all levels of Rotary. We thank him for his visit and appreciate his enthusiasm and commitment to Rotary.
