ANNOUNCEMENTS
  • HACSM sent a Thank You note for their Knight and Shining Armor representing Rotary for delivering the calculators. They served over 200 students this year in their back to school drive.
  • Ramp Service Project was a huge success on Saturday.   There was more work to be done then originally thought and much more need.  Rotary, Silver Creek Rotary, and Family Bible, Community Volunteers helped to clear landscape (over grown by a decade), build a new ramp, lay sidewalk, and create an accessible drive way.  A special TIP OF THE HAT to Mark Frey who provided his Skid loader and ton truck, Paul Ray Capelle who led the deck work and provided tools, Gary Oliges with Southwest Construction for concrete work, Schewend Red-E Mix , Gary Frey, for labor and concrete work, and Kevin for helping to coordinate the project.
  • Dick Aten announced that he over slept and missed the service project on Saturday and only 2 people showed up to work so they are rescheduling for next Saturday at 9am.
  • Philipines Water Project: Phil Hardas is willing to donated his $500 winnings from the car raffle ticket last week if another Rotarian will match it (THANKS ERIC SCHMIDT for immediately donating his winnings as well) to go towards another well/hook up project.

PROGRAM: John Marcoot, Marcoot Jersey Creamery

The new Creamery was built by Mark Frey in Greenville, IL and John was very grateful for its quality and uniqueness.  John shared that they are emphazising their heritage of seven generations of Jeresey cow dairy farmers.

His grandfather Maurice was an immigrant from Switzerland who signed up to fight in the Civil War.  He kept a diary of his experiences including a friendship he developed when called into a hospital to be an interpreter.  He wrote a book entitled "5 Years in the Sunny South."  This book is one of the few highlighting the experiences of an immigrant fighting in the Civil War and is still quoted in other books today.  The family is looking to copy right the book next year and send it to be published.  Maurice owned jersey cows then and the tradition has continued.

About Jeresy Creamery:
