 NFED
(National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasias)

Due to a scheduling conflict, Carol Agne was not able to attend our meeting, so fellow Rotarian, Mike Gould, presented her presentation in her place.  NFED's mission is to empower and connect people touched by ectodermal dysplasia by providing education, support and research. 7 out of every 10,000 babies are born affected by an ectodermal dysplasia.  In IL and MO, there are 300 cases, 70 of which are in the Metro area, and 2 cases in Highland.  NFED is headquartered in Mascoutah, IL.  They have a 9 person staff and 1 office.  Ectodermal Dysplasias can affect the teeth, hair, nails, sweat glands, skin, and other ectodermal parts of the body.  There are no cures for the disease, but research is ongoing.
