Frank Doll
Local Dairy Farmer in Bond County

Frank is a 3rd generation dairy farmer and gave us some new insight into the local dairy farms.  All the cows on his farm are milked by machine.  He is a member of Prairie Farms Dairy Coop and Midwest Dairy Association, whose main goal is to send farmers out and spread the word about their industry.  One of his favorite things is when field trips from local schools come out to tour his farm.  His main goal is to bridge the gap between city and farm living.  He gives them hayrides and tours.

Frank tags his cows and registers them to help prevent mass slaughtering  in case of a disease outbreak.  He has about 300 cows, of which he milks 150 and 20 are dry.  Once they dry up, they become beef cows and eventually end up at McDonalds.  Each cow produces 10 gallons of milk per day.  The goal in genetics and breeding the cows are to produce the bigger and better cow.  The happier the cow, the more milk she will produce.  They eat about 060-70 lbs of feed per day.
