PROGRAM
11-17-09 Mark Rosen
Mark Rosen
Highland's Parks Department

Mark started working for the city in 1982 as a swim lesson instructor and too over his current position in 1996 when Jerome Zobrist retired.  Currently the Parks Dept. employs 7 full time employees and 130+ part time employees that range in ages from 14-70.  He feels like it is the Parks Dept. to provide for everyone and they do that in many, many ways.  Some of the following are a few that Mark touched upon are Family Night Hike, Scavenger Hunts, Haunted Hayrides, Movies at the Park and Pool, Daddy-Daughter Dance, Fishing Derby, Aerobic Classes, baseball, soccer, etc.   Some of the most recent and current projects include doubling the walking Trail at Spindler Park, stabilizing the shoreline at Silver Lake, the Dave Eming Waterfall and the Jason Harsey field.  Some of the things the Park would like to do in the future include expanding the City Cemetery, a bike lane and Trail along the new peripheral route, an inner-city bike trail, improving and adding comfort stations, and renovate or build new the public pool.  Some of their biggest challenges are Communications and maintaining 1100 acres in the city.
