180 SECONDS of FAME

A Remembrance of Bill Pierce

Gordon Smith  - Remembers the good times on the golf course and the "Great American Pigeon Shoot".  Gordon met Bill through Rotary and they became good friends.  It was known that there was a major Pigeon problem in Highland, so one day, some avid hunters in the area camped out around the town before church and proceeded to shoot the pigeons, while the Bill, our Police Chief at the time, drove around and picked them up.  Gordon even mentioned that the ammunition was provided by the Highland PD.  Afterwards they all met up at Marx Bros. for breakfast to hide out from the news media that showed up, trying to figure out what was going on.  Everyone denied everything as if it had never happened.

Terry Bell - When the Chief of Police position opened up, Terry called Bill to see if Bill would be a reference for Terry.  Bill told Terry in the end that "the best move he ever made was to be the Highland Chief of Police in his career in law enforcement."

Bill Beltze - NICE Foundation

Nicaragua Christian Education Foundation began in 1992 and incorporated in 2000.  NICE was set up to fund 3rd world countries.  They don't want to make a change, but to make an IMPACT!  They try and accomplish this by attempting to create HOPE.  They don't like to consider it charity, but rather a system of hope.  Hope, in turn, becomes passion.  They send mission teams to go down to schools and provide them with tools.  They use what they take down there as tools to teach them through Christian Ministry.  Of the 106,900 meals they send down, 1 school can provide a meal a day for every child for a year, to help them be ready to learn in school.  Nicaragua is 2445 miles away.  The shipments take 2 weeks to ship and cost just under $5000 to ship.
