Rotary Dues 101 - Since we have so many new faces, we thought it would be helpful to explain what makes up the $31 quarterly dues. Of those funds, about $17 goes to Rotary International, about $8 goes to Rotary District #6460 and $6 goes to the Highland Rotary. Rotary International is higher because they factor in the monthly magazine and have a smaller general liability insurance on our club. Also, the meal portion of your bill is based on $9 per meal at the number of Tuesday meetings that fall in that quarter. That is the amount we pay Michael's per person. If you should see a credit on your bill for make-ups, you are given a $9 discount per make up since you most likely had to pay at another Rotary's club's meeting. Occasionally we have special events that you might attend and those will show as separate line items. Any time you have questions about your bill or your balance, please feel free to contact Maura

We have 233 hours right now - remember we have a goal of 10,000. If you've been holding back on reporting your service hours, now's the time to get them in!
Upcoming service opportunities:
Street Art Festival - July 31st - They can use help setting up tents and painting squares. August 1st, the Street Art Festival can use help with setup from 6:00am to 10:00 or 11:00am, then again at 8:00pm to help break down. Contact Jan Brinker to help or with any questions.
Jan really encouraged everyone that is able to, to come out and enjoy the festival. They will have a street art painter coming from Kansas City to do a 3-D picture. Also, Melissa Steiner will be painting a square for the Rotary, and our very own Roland Harris will also have some paintings on display!
Be sure and let Jan know all the service hours you put in...remember we have a goal of 10,000 hours. To find out more info on any of the above areas to volunteer email Jan Brinker at jan_korte_brinker @yahoo.com. |

Jeremy White - His trip to Slovakia
Jeremy introduced us to Slovakia, where he spent a year as an exchange student. He gave us some background information regarding the History, Government, Economy, Currency, Geography, Culture and Food. Some of the things we learned from him was that they eat 5 meals a day, and Jeremy put on 12lbs while over there. They also start school a year later and graduate at age 19. While he was over there, he did a lot of traveling and sightseeing, and very little studying! The Rotary club of Zvolen, Slovakia only has 25 Rotary members, very low attendance, very dry meetings lasting anywhere from 2 minutes to 2 hours, and no female Rotarians! From all his traveling, his jacket now weighs 6lbs and is covered with pins. Congratulations Jeremy! | |
