American Red Cross - Nicki Goestenkors stopped by our meeting to ask us to help donate or to help get the word out to others to help donate.  She let us know that you can give blood every 56 days and there are the following 2 blood drives coming up in Highland:

*Thursday, July 23, from 2-8pm at the K.C. Hall

180 SECONDS of FAME

Antonia Iberra

In the interest of time, we skipped our 180 Seconds of Fame, and instead, said our good-bye's to Antonia!  She was officially leaving us the very next day and Lisa Hunsche presented  her with a charm necklace, that had many different charms, representing her time here with us.  The best one being, a key to our city, so she will always remember her time here in Highland!

If you haven't given blood in the last 3 months or didn't turn in any service hours last week, you owe a buck!

HAPPY BUCKS:
Bob Luitjohan - Gave a happy buck because he got to report that Dave Rehkemper's surgery went well and they are saying that he should have a 1 month re-coup time (Dave told the Dr.'s two weeks!)

Lisa Hunsche - Gave a dollar because here daughter returned safely after a trip to Florida with 3 of her friends.

Jack Klaus - Had 2 happy bucks.  The first was to report that Bill Pierce is doing very, very well, and the second was for his brother, Tal Klaus, because he ate Don Johannes's sandwich at the last meeting!

PROGRAM

Wayne Steiner - Polio Plus

Our program today was presented by Wayne Steiner and was on Rotary's final push to eradicate Polio.  Because of the efforts put forth by Rotary, so far, 2 billion children have been immunized and there are only 4 countries left, that aren't Polio free!  Rotary is at 99% of their goal of a Polio Free world.  Bill and Melinda Gates have just pledged $355 million dollars towards the Polio Plus program and have challenged Rotarians to come up with the remaining $200 million dollars, by 2012.  There was a discussion after the presentation that this money comes from many different sources, one of them being money raised by naming Paul Harris Fellows.  For example, when you name a Paul Harris Fellow in one of your giving circles, you can earmark that money to go towards Polio Eradication.
