Doc Holdeman
President Bill led us in a moment of silence and remembrance of Doc, then ask if we would like to share some memories of Doc. Bob Engleman shared that on his 80th birthday, Doc took a trip out west and rode a donkey up a mountainside. When he came back, he did a program on it and it was on e of the best. Father Peters remembered how excited Doc got when he drew the Ace of Spades and his table won the jackpot (each winning over $100.) Buzz Widmer shared that Doc was a B-25 Navigator and a member of the Army/Air Force. Terry Lammers liked to tell Doc that he had his wife for kindergarten as his teacher. Jake Gutzler shared he remembered Doc falling asleep and they took his picture. Jake also remembered Doc not liking something Wayne Steiner said one day, but that he had to be nice because Wayne was his banker. Maura was amazed at how, even at his age, he attended everything and stayed to the end. Jim Kemper told us of how Doc brought in his computer, because his wife told him to, and how frustrated he was with it. Doc was a great man and a great Rotarian and will be greatly missed.

Tim Twyford - Upward Basketball and Football

Tim Twyford came and spoke to us on the Upward Basketball and Football program at Highland Hope Church. The Upward program promotes character and fun for every child by: Providing an evaluation system that promotes equal and competitive teams. It establishes a 1 hour practice and game each week. The program implements a substitution system for each team, allowing every child equal playing time. It creates the opportunity for every child to learn and improve their skills in the sport. Participating in the Upward program gives each child a chance to experience good sportsmanship on and off the field. Each child receives a special recognition award after every game and has the opportunity to develop new friendships. It was easy to see that this program has a special place in Tim's heart. He shared some needs that they have like a new scoreboard for the football team and a sound system to broadcast the outside games (approx. $500.) and a striping machine to paint the lines on the field (approx. $1800.) Tim also encouraged any volunteerism from us and thanked us for our past support. Thank You Tim for giving of your time to these kids and this program.
