Meeting each TUESDAY at Michael's Restaurant, 415 Broadway - 12:00 noon
NEXT MEETING - TUESDAY, April 14, 2009, 12:00 noon at Michael's Restaurant. |
| INTRO |
|
The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. President Bill Sullivan started the meeting; Don Johannes led us in prayer.
Traci Reichmann led us in a song (complete with choreography) that H.I.S. Kids sing at their camps - "Thank You God for Giving us Food". Kind of a Superman-themed sung prayer. Hard to explain - you had to be there. Thanks, Traci !

| ANNOUNCEMENTS |
|
Board Meeting - The board met last week. Among other items of business, the board approved payments of $250 to the Pregnancy Care Center and $250 to the Highland Chamber to assist in the repair of the Nativity statues.
Car Raffle - The Car Raffle will begin on May 26th with the drawing to be held on August 4th.
Rotary Happy Hour - This month's happy hour will return on April 30th at Marx Brothers. Mark your calendars.
April 28th Meeting - For the benefit of those who missed our March 17th meeting at the Highland Country Club we will be going off-site again. Our meeting on the 28th will be held at the HCC.
Have you yielded today? Apparently Bill's pet peeve happens to be discourteous drivers. He issued a challenge to the club (in conjunction with this year's Involvement Inspires theme). Bill suggested that we all YIELD once a day. Maybe our example will inspire others to be courteous while driving.
New Member - Randy Schorfheide, Director of Community Relations at St. Joseph's Hospital, has been proposed for membership. Pending any objections, he will be welcomed into the club at our next meeting.

| LITERACY PROJECT - Wayne Steiner |
|
|
Bill reported that Wayne completed the delivery of everything to Critchton Elementary School. He was well received and the teachers were overwhelmed with what we supplied.
Our team of loaders paused for a picture after successfully packing the van . . .
. . . while the driver was anxious to get on the road.
Wayne will be back next week loaded with pictures, videos, and lots of stories. We look forward to hearing more.

POT OF GOLD:
$924 in the pot this week. Our program speaker, Traci, picked the 5 of Hearts . . . which really is the wrong card. FINES: Today is (was) election day. If you haven't yet voted, it cost you a dollar. Tom tried to get out of paying based on a technicality but his objection was overruled.
HAPPY BUCKS: Kevin Dewaele was happy that his daughter was accepted into U of I Masters Program in Chicago. Lisa Hunsche was happy that the Select Choir at HHS took first place this weekend at contest. Connie Blackmon paid a happy buck since her Cubs won their opening game (neener-neener).

Traci Reichmann - H.I.S. Kids
Traci Reichcmann of H.I.S. Kids told us a little bit about what they do. Their main purpose is to connect families to other families that are dealing with the same kind of cancers. H.I.S. Kids was started 25 years ago when Connie and Jim Miles lost their own daughter, Marcia to cancer. Traci has been with them for 10 years and wears many hats. She runs the office and helps with family support, sibling suppor and bereavement support. It is easy to see her passion for what she does. Traci also told us of K.I.D.S. by the Sea; that was started in 1996 and in 2006 a H.I.S. kids office opened in Hannibal, MO. There are many ways we could be of help to H.I.S. kids if you would like to know more contact Traci at the Highland office. | |
