Meeting each TUESDAY at Michael's Restaurant, 415 Broadway - 12:00 noon
NEXT MEETING - TUESDAY, March 31, 2009, 12:00 noon at Michael's Restaurant. |
| INTRO |

The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. President Bill Sullivan started the meeting; Deacon Ron led us in prayer. |
| ANNOUNCEMENTS |
|
Rotary Baseball Day - Connie Blackmon (is it just me, or do you get the feeling she's a Cub's fan?) will be coordinating our club's participation in the annual Rotary day at Busch Stadium. The Cards / Cubs game is on Saturday, April 25th at 3:00. Tickets are $37.50 each and Connie will have a sign-up at next week's meeting. (Just a side note - that date is also the HHS Prom Night).
Golf Tournament - Tournament chairman, Mark Korte, announced that Friday, June 19th will be the annual Rotary 9-hole golf tournament. The first committee meeting on Tuesday, March 31st at 9th Street Café at 7 a.m. If you would like to help with this event, come to this meeting or contact Mark. He will be needing hole sponsors and prizes, so if you have ideas, let him know. |
| LITERACY PROJECT - Wayne Steiner |
|
While donations have been coming in at a very gratifying pace, Wayne reported that any further donations will still be gratefully accepted. (As long as he receives them by Turesday, March 31st.)
Wayne will be leaving for West Virginia, with his van of goodies, on April 4th and will be needing help on the afternoon of April 2nd at 3:00 to box up the materials. Meet at FCB Bank - you provide the labor, Wayne will provide the materials.
After the meeting Wayne received several questions about additional items to buy. If you have nothing specific in mind, Wayne commented that a cash donation is also appreciated. One of our members wondered if we could buy a computer and accesssories for the school. The obvious answer is, "yes, we can" - if we get enough donations. So if you still want to participate and don't know what to buy, a cash donation can be put to good use. |
| FISH RACE - Rick Ringwald |
|
Rick announced that we had $6590 in ticket sales (net proceeds will be reported as soon as all bills are in) and thanked everyone who helped make the Fish Race a success.

Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams - Randy Pausch
On September 18, 2007, Carnegie Mellon professor and alumnus Randy Pausch delivered a one-of-a-kind last lecture that made the world stop and pay attention. It became an Internet sensation viewed by millions and an international media story. To this day, people everywhere continue to talk about Randy, share his message and put his life lessons into action in their own lives.
A DVD of this lecture, was intorduced by Holli Martin. Even though we were only able to view half of the presentation due to time (part two to be presented at a future meeting), Dr. Pausch made several points which merit consideration: Don't worry when people critisize your work - worry when they stop becasue it means they no longer care . . . Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted. . . Brick walls are there for a reason: they let us prove how badly we want things.
We look forward to the remainder of the presentation. | |
