| LITERACY PROJECT - Wayne Steiner |
|
Wayne Steiner reported that a request was made for pedometers and that they were supplied by two of our Rotarians. Jake also came across some boxes of crayons and coloring books in the basement of Tru-Buy. How he came about locating them is a deep dark secret. Wayne Steiner also reported that band instruments would be accepted. So find them and donate them.
Wayne will be leaving for West Virginia on April 4th so if you've been waiting until the end to make your donations, now's the time!

| FISH RACE - Rick Ringwald |
|
Rick was not there so Jan Brinker took the helm to let everyone know that fish tickets would be accepted up until the day of the race and that we were way short of even meeting expenses so it was important to sell, sell, sell.
(Last minute update - after counting Tuesday's returns, we have raised $4,490. This covers our expenses, but still leaves us short of our goal. Remember - tickets can be turned up right up until race time so continue to push the tickets.)
The Fish Race is this Sunday, March 22nd at the Korte Rec Center. Races start at 7:00 but if you can come early to help set-up, it would be greatly appreciated. |

Mark Owensby - Rampart Range
Mark Owensby, Retired Illinois State Trooper and World Champion Sharp Shooter was this week's speaker. Mark is currently preparing a state of the art pistol shooting range and pro shop in Pocahontas called Rampart Range for opening this summer.
He went over the details of what it takes to become a sharp shooter regarding training, both mentally and physically. He compared it to other sports that required extreme dedication, concentration, and preparation. He mentioned the importance of using good quality equipment and stressed that fact that you get what you pay for. The range will be open by June or July. They will have not only retail items there for sale, but will also provide lanes for shooting in which they will charge by the hour, and will also hold classes for Child Safety, Self-Protection for Women, and others. He mentioned that the state of Illinois police department has already contacted him regarding training the officers. As well as the Bond County Sheriff's Department. Employees will be retired police officers and military personnel. A few funny stories were told from his experience as a highway patrolmen. Regarding excuses for speeding and how one particular gentlemen blamed the speeding on his dog. | |
