ANNOUNCEMENTS
After Hours - Rotary After Hours was not so well attended this month, but we'll keep trying.

Location Change -  The March 17th meeting will be held at Highland Country Club. We will take a count next week so please make sure, if you miss, to let Wayne know if you'll be joining us on St. Patrick's day.

Family Picnic -   Mark your calendars for the family picnic on June 16th.  More details to follow soon!
LITERACY PROJECT - Wayne Steiner
We are still accepting donations of sporting equipment and books.  If you have collected some items, they can be dropped off at FCB Bank, Louis Latzer Library or Terra Properties.  Jake Gutzler was able to spark some interest outside our community by mentioning our project at a breakfast fundraiser.  Great job Jake!
FISH RACE - Rick Ringwald

Now is the time for everyone to be busy selling tickets. We need to sell 600 tickets just to cover the First Place prize, so please do your best.  The proceeds will support our International and Literacy projects.  All sold tickets should be turned in by March 17th.  This will allow us to prepare the numbered fish for the race.  We will still accept tickets up to the race on March 22nd.
COMMUNITY SERVICE - Jan Brinker

The Pregnancy Care Center's Spring Banquet is on Thursday, March 19 and they are needing some help.  This banquet is prepared and served solely through donated time.  If you are available, and not attending, this could be a great way to support the local center.  Contact Carrie Adolph for further information.

Laura Foerster  is  looking for help stuffing 300 - 400 goodie bags at St. Joseph's Hospital, 4th Floor, Patient Dining Room, on Friday, March 20, 2009 at 3:00 PM.   This is a family-friendly event, so kids are welcome to pitch in!  Contact Laura (618-651-2757) if you can help out.

Laura is also looking for child care  providers for children of those wanting to attend a smoke cessation class. Contact her if you can help out.

Be sure and let Jan know all the service hours you put in...remember we have a goal of 10,000 hours. To find out more info on any of the above areas to volunteer email Jan Brinker at jan_korte_brinker @yahoo.com.

"America the Beautiful" and "That Rotary Wheel", sung to the tune of "Peggy O'Neil".  (Does anyone even know the song, "Peggy O'Neil"? )
180 SECONDS of FAME
Dave Rehkemper
Dave was one of four children born to dairy farmers in St Rose.  He attended Mater Dei high school and then went on to barber school.  He proceeded to be a barber for five years when he went into the car dealership business.  He was 24 years young when him and two others opened Tri-Ford (three owners, hence the name).  He and his wife Monica have two children and two grandchildren.  His favorite past time or hobby is golf.  His ideal vacation is going to Destin with his family.  He has been in Rotary for 30 years.

PROGRAM
Laura Foerster - Safe Kids Program

03-04-09 Laura Foerster
Laura Foerster discusses the Safe Kids Program

New Rotary member Laura Foerster presented some interesting statistics on Madison County.  Not to be proud of these statistics, sadly Madison County is ranking worst in the state for obesity, diabetes, and cancer.  She talked about some programs the hospital has put together to make a difference in our rankings by making our community aware of the health risks.  She also talked about the many projects she has going with providing safety to our children, from car seat safety checks to education on helmets to prevent head traumas.  She is always looking for ideas to grow and fund the program and welcomes any input her fellow Rotarians can provide.
