ANNOUNCEMENTS
 02-17-09 Fish Race
Rich Knebel recieves first Fish Race tickets from race chairman Rick Ringwald

Fish Race -  Rick Ringwald handed out 20 tickets today for each of us to sell; proceeds to support our International and Literacy projects.  The Fish Race will be Sunday, March 22 at Korte Rec. Center.  First heat starts at 7:00 PM.  If you would like to help on this committee, contact Rick.

If you were not at this week's meeting, you can see Rick at the Chamber's Business After Hours, hosted by Regions Bank - Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.

Literacy Project - Bill reminded us to bring in books and sports equipment for our Literacy Project.  The items can be dropped off at the Library, FBC Bank or Terra Properties.  This week we sent a check for $1,500 to Crichton Elementary school to help them begin their Accelerated Reading program.  A thank-you email from the school's principal expressed how overwhelmed they were with our club's generosity.

In addition, Bill recognized the donation of 11 cases of children's books from St. Joseph's Hospital book sale.  Future Rotarian, Randy Schorfheide, helped coordinate the receipt of the donation.

 02-17-09 HACSM Check
Adrian Rogier receives check on behalf of HACSM

Food Pantry - Today was our day to bring in items for the Food Pantry for which we collected 219 lbs. of food and $465 in cash donations.  In addition,  Bill also made a presentation to HACSM Board member, Adrian Rogier,  of $10,000 as our second installment of the club's $30,000 pledge to the HACSM Building Fund.
COMMUNITY SERVICE - Jan Brinker
The Pregnancy Care Center's Spring Banquet is on Thursday, March 19 and they are needing some help.  This banquet is prepared and served solely through donated time.  If you are available, and not attending, this could be a great way to support the local center.  Contact Carrie Adolph for further information.

Laura Foerster  is  looking for help stuffing 300 - 400 goodie bags at St. Joseph's Hospital, 4th Floor, Patient Dining Room, on Friday, March 20, 2009 at 3:00 PM.   This is a family-friendly event, so kids are welcome to pitch in!  Contact Laura if you can help out.

Be sure and let Jan know all the service hours you put in...remember we have a goal of 10,000 hours. To find out more info on any of the above areas to volunteer email Jan Brinker at jan_korte_brinker @yahoo.com.

New Member Induction

02-17-09 New Members
New members Ron Hesson, Laura Foerster, Rick Ringwald, Phil Hardas and Larry Deiters.  (Not pictured, Mike Sutton)

President Bill Sullivan welcomed several new members to the Highland club. Laura Foerster, Rick Ringwald, Mike Sutton, Larry Deiters, Phil Hardas and Deacon Ron Hesson all received their "official" welcome to Rotary Internationals and were each given the oportunity to tell us all a little about themselves, their family and occupation.  (One of the group, who shall reamin unnamed, expressed disappointment on finding our that there really is no secret handshake.)

Welcome to each and everyone of you, we all look forward to serving our local, national and international community with you.
