HOMEOWNER PAYS OFF HER MORTGAGE!
|
We are so proud to announce that partner homeowner, Toshia Williams is the first HFH GLA homeowner to pay off her mortgage! What an exciting milestone!
The single mother of three moved into her home in 1992 and decided to pay a little more each month on her principle - and was able to pay off her mortgage a few months earlier than projected. Toshia said, "Owning a home has been such a blessing. I am so grateful and thankful to my parents and my former boss, Mr. Sanders for encouraging me to apply for a Habitat for Humanity house." She adds, "Always set a goal and try to achieve it no matter what. If you get side tracked, find a way to get back on track."
In this economy, what an incredible story of success! Stay tuned for more on Toshia's story coming soon!

THEORY OF A DEADMAN
| |
Canadian rock band,THEORY OF A DEADMAN,
has teamed up with Hollywood for Habitat for Humanity to sell
$5 bracelets at their shows to benefit HFH GLA and contribute towards a THEORY sponsored Habitat build in the fall!
"So many people are being affected by the current state of
our economy and now more than ever have the need for affordable housing," states the band. "We thought that it was
a great idea to get involved and donate our time and help
make a difference by building a house later this year," explains frontman TYLER CONNOLLY. "The band and I decided to direct our efforts toward helping a family in my Los Angeles
community. We're encouraging fans to pick up a wristband offered at our merch booth this summer. The proceeds will be donated to HFH GLA and help them with their mission of building hope, lives and communities every day."
Thank you to the band for their support!

MEET LONG BEACH HOMEOWNER, FARRA RAY
| |
"Owning my own home means security for my family and will help show my children that anything is possible," says Farra Ray, HFH GLA partner homeowner.
Farra, her husband Noy, and their two children Kayla, 14, and Jalen, 7, currently live in an apartment with no insulation or safe outdoor living space for the children to play. Farra and Noy have been living in Long Beach for more than 14 years and Farra has worked for more than 7 years in a warehousing distribution office. Kayla loves to draw, plays keyboard and enjoys art, drama and math in school while Jalen enjoys reading and math. The entire family looks forward to having space to play outdoors and thrive. Noy and Farra loved putting in their sweat equity hours on their new home and appreciate all the work volunteers did to help make their dream a reality.

We are equally focused on changing lives far into the future. That's what makes "Giving Tomorrow" so important.

PARKCREST'S STAYCATION MISSION TRIP!
| |
On July 11-14, HFH GLA was thrilled to welcome Parkcrest Christian Church of Long Beach to help renovate a home in Long Beach. Parkcrest took part in a staycation mission trip to serve hardworking, low-income homeowners in need right in their own backyard. More than 20 members of the congregation took off work to help renovate the home. They also raised funds, debriefed before and after each build day, and had an amazing team from the church provide breakfast and lunch throughout the week. With the completion of their staycation, Parkcrest has now given more than $100,000 to help build HFH GLA homes since 1990!
Any congregation interested in taking part in their own staycation mission trip should contact Chris Untiet, HFH GLA Faith Relation's Manager, at chrisu@habitatla.org.
