Changes Are Coming!

Greetings!

Changes are coming.

We are slowly changing our base of operations to The Great Park in Irvine.  We hope to have a growing area and greenhouse set up by winter and a permanent retail outlet sometime next spring.  There's a lot of uncertainty about this time table, so we'll see.

In the meantime we will be changing one of our potting soils.  We will keep our ACID MIX Potting Soil as is, but change the bag's graphics.  I will be eliminating our TROPICAL POTTING SOIL and replacing it with a different formulation.  During the next few months there may have a short period where one or both soils may not be available.  Plan your purchases accordingly.

euphorbia blue haze
Euphorbia Blue Haze  quart $4
This evergreen perennial is a hybrid of species native to Eurasia.  Its upright stems can reach 18" high and forms a mound 2' wide.  The powder blue foliage contrasts nicely with it spring-summer show of chartreuse yellow flowers.

Easy-to-grow.  Best in full sun with decent, well-drained soil.  Provide average to low water.  Established plants are tolerant of short periods of drought.  Trim back stems following bloom to encourage dense growth and renew foliage.

plectranthus mona lav
Plectranthus Mona Lavender  8" $20, quart $4
This evergreen perennial is a hybrid of species native to South Africa.  Mona Lavender creates a very attractive, densely foliated bush about 2' tall and wide with purple stems and deep green leaves with purple reverse.  Spikes of tubular lavender flowers provide additional interest from fall to spring.

Easy-to-grow.  Situate in full sun along coast to full shade in hot interior locations.  Some sun is needed for compact growth and more colorful foliage.  Prefers well-drained soil and moderate irrigation.  Hardy to about 27 degrees F.

We have actually displayed a few of the larger 8" size plants over the last few months.  This is the first time this year that we've been able to get the quart size plants.

glove roc
The ROC glove  Men's & Women's sizes  $8 pair
I've tried a lot of gloves for garden work.  These are the best I've used.  The glove is a knit bamboo with a nitrile coated palm and fingertips.  I have yet to get a hole in the fingers!  The gloves stay cool (I don't even think of taking them off on a hot day).  They don't get smelly or make my hands stink.  Most gloves feel miserable when they get wet.  With these the excess moisture is wicked away.
