The Cool Season is Approaching

Greetings!
54 degrees F. is a temperature that just doesn't occur in the World's tropical regions. Many of our warm season plants (basil, banana, corn, chiles, Dahlia, Gardenia, pineapple, plumeria, etc.) are tropical in origin and require warm temperatures to function properly. When night temperatures drop below 55 degrees F. most of these plants stop growing. Drop a few more degrees and some very tender plants (like basil) decline rapidly and may even die.
Sometime this month it will become too cool to grow basil unprotected outside. We will continue to offer it, but basil should then be grown inside, or brought inside at night. I grow basil inside my kitchen window from November to April.
On the flip side, cool season plants (broccoli, cauliflower, cilantro, lettuce, pansy, peas, poppy, etc.) will do well from now for at least the next 6 months.

Situate in sun. Adaptable to many different soils and moisture levels. Established plants are tolerant of short periods of drought.
