Rose Apple (Eugenia jambos, Syzygium jambos) 5 gallon $30 From tropical Asia comes an evergreen tree that resembles a small, lush Eucalyptus and produces a large quantity of apricot-size fruit over a long season. The hollow fruit is a crispy rind about 1/4" to 3/8" thick surrounding a large seed. The flesh has the perfume and taste of a sweet rose. The small, upright tree grows 15'-25' tall with glossy green, lance-shaped leaves on arching stems. New growth is reddish. Our trees should start production within 2 years.
Surinam Cherry (Eugenia uniflora, Syzygium uniflora) 2 gallon $20 From South America comes this interesting, cherry-size fruit with a tangerine flavor. The plant starts out as a bush with arching branches and eventually becomes an attractive small, evergreen tree with marble bark. Surinam cherry produces two main crops per year, late spring and mid-fall, but mature trees may have some fruit at all times. The fruit starts green, turns yellow and matures to orange, red and even purple. Many plants have all colors present at the same time. The flowers are cream puffs. Our trees should start production within 2 years. |
