SPRING HAS SPRUNG!

Subscribe to Our Newsletter!

Greetings!

It's funny how a stretch of cool days makes you really appreciate 65 degrees!  Besides we live in Orange County.  It's our right to garden in shorts and sandals.

The latest weather forecast is for no low temperatures below 40 degrees through the middle of March.  We consider March 15th to be the last day of winter when below freezing temperatures can still occur.  Therefore, unless something really weird happens, it's time to really start gardening.  Tasks such as starting seeds, installing plants, moving plants, dividing perennials, renewing the soil in your pots can be accomplished without much risk.

I don't know about the rest of you but I'm ready to plant tomatoes.

We are expanding the selection of vegetables that we are offering at the farmer's market.

This week's availability

Tomato varieties include:  Big Beef, Black Krim, Celebrity, Champion, Cherry, Grape, Lemon Boy, Momotaro, Roma, Sugary, Sun Gold, Sweet Million

Bell Peppers varieties include: Better Bell, Mini Chocolate Bell, Mini Red Bell, Mini Yellow Bell, Roumanian Rainbow, Purple Islander, Red Knight, Golden Cal Wonder

Hot Pepper varieties include: Anaheim, Chile de Arbol, Holy Mole, Hot Thai, Italian Roaster, Ring of Fire

We have a very full selection of herbs.  Even though it is still too early to leave basil outside unprotected at night, we've gotten so many requests, we decided to offer them.

Basil varieties include: African Blue, Dark Opal, Genovese Pesto, Italian Large Leaf, Mrs. Burns Lemon, Siam Queen, Spicy Bush, and Sweet.  Basil can slowly die when exposed to night temperatures below 55 degrees F.  You can keep it in a pot and bring it inside at night, cover it at night, or grow it in a sunny window.

Other herbs include:  Chamomile, Chives (2 types), Cilantro (regular & Asian), Dill (3 types), Fennel, Lemon Balm, Mint (8 types), Oregano (4 types), Parsley (2 types), Rosemary (5 types), Sage (4 types), Savory (2 types), and Thyme (7 types), and more!

We also have Artichoke and Swiss Chard.   If you have a specific request for a certain vegetable or herb we should be able to fill it.  We are receiving new plants virtually every week at this time.

FINAL WEEK(S) FOR BARE ROOT PLANTS

Bare root fruit trees will be available for 1-2 more weeks.  The warmer weather due this next week will wake them up for certain and I'll need to get them into containers.  Currently we still have Anna apple, Fuji apple, Granny Smith apple, Pink Lady apple, Gold Kist apricot, Red Baron peach, Izu Fuyu persimmon, Jiro Fuyu persimmon, Burgundy plum (last week), Wonderful pomegranate, as well as Flame seedless grape.

Bare root ornamental trees include  Chain-Flowering redbud and Mexican redbud.

We are also stocking Gerbera Daisy, Dianthus, Moth orchids, African Violets, Bromeliads, and an excellent selection of succulents.

If you need a certain annual, perennial, houseplant or succulent for your garden let us know.  We should be able to get it for you within a week or two.
