 As our regular customers know, Emerald Coast Growers has growing locations in Pensacola, Florida and Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Ordinarily, when the subject turns to the H word - hurricanes - one thinks immediately of our southern facilities.
But August 2011 turned that assumption on its head when Hurricane Irene, 500 miles wide, came churning up the coast on a whirlwind tour of the Carolinas, Delaware, New Jersey, New York New England - and, as an afterthought, Lancaster, PA.
We got lucky. Yes, there was flooding. Trees and limbs were downed. Over 50,000 homes and businesses lost power, some for days. Still, we were dealt a glancing blow compared to the destruction elsewhere.
To those who called, texted or emailed to ask if we were OK, a sincere Thank You! We're fine. We appreciate your concern.
