Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, And He brought them out of their distresses. He caused the storm to be still, So that the waves of the sea were hushed. Then they were glad because they were quiet, So He guided them to their desired haven. Let them give thanks to the Lord for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men! Let them extol Him also in the congregation of the people, And praise Him at the seat of the elders. Psalm 107:28-32
As you read this, my family will be riding the storm out in southern Louisiana. Some folk might think we are crazy especially in light of the fact that we practically lost all that we owned in hurricane Katrina. I understand and while you might think we are crazy - we learned a long time ago that we must face our fears and our storms. So while that is not the whole reason we have stayed it's a part of it. We try to look at each storm physical and spiritual from many different angles. As I write this article Isaac has only become a hurricane. He is a baby and while an infant he will still cause much damage. We are on the north side of New Orleans - across Lake Pontchartrain. People are "hunkered down" for the night and hurricane parties are in full swing.
There is laughter all around me. My girls, friends, and boyfriends are eating and laughing. Dogs are lurking next to the table in hope of a dropped morsel. The adults are
cooking and celebrating the fact that there is still electricity and AIR CONDITIONING! Who knows what the next few hours will bring. Only the One Who hears our cries and quiets the storm knows the ending of our story.
In the midst of this race we must give Him all of our praise! We must give Him thanks for His lovingkindness! We must praise Him together for all the grace gifts He gives along the way. Through all the storms you and I must cry out to Him for deliverance and trust that He and He alone will quiet the waters and raise us up and carry us on! As I am finishing this article the storm has made landfall and we are bracing for a second landfall (never has anyone seen this). The wind is roaring and the rain is falling but He is faithful in the midst of the storm!
We covet your prayers for this part of the world! As one friend Karyn has posted on facebook - "This will be a long dark night with gusts of winds that sounds like God Himself is riding on the wings of the wind as it says in Psalm 104." On this eve of the anniversary of hurricane Katrina we would ask that you remember the faithfulness of our God and give Him praise!
Praying for you!
Love, Diane Nix
