I'm Thankful

In the United States we are celebrating Thanksgiving in a week! Our Canadian sisters celebrated Thanksgiving in October.  And for those around the globe - I know that some countries have a season or a holiday that encourages a time to pause and be thankful.  I wanted to write a small part of my story.  This is a snapshot.  I am so thankful!

Rebekah 3
I was told that I would never have children.  My first born was still born in the 6 month of pregnancy.  She is our Hannah.  I gave birth to her and she weighed just shy of 1lb.  She was beautiful.  After Hannah, we went through 5 failed open adoptions.  (These were tricky and not what they are today.)  Then finally, God opened my womb, despite what the doctors said  and I was with child.  She came into the world at a whopping 5lbs. 4 oz.  Lost a pound and I took her home at 4lbs.  Rebekah Elizabeth! What a gift!  What a treasure!

Rachel - 10 mo.
Then to my surprise, another miracle.  From the moment I could feel her moving, Rachel was a fighter.  She kicked  and fought her way through a very rough pregnancy.  She was born at 3 lbs. 12 oz.  I brought her home at 4 lbs.  What a blessing! She makes my heart happy! That was almost 14 years ago.  There have been many days pass from then until now and the Lord willing there will be many more.  I am in the the middle of teenage years with a middle aged body - a different season - different
Kasia
challenges, sweet victories, exciting, scary, unknown future but precious!  PRECIOUS!

In the last 16 years, God has brought into our lives two spiritual daughters - I'll explain in the forums - what spiritual daughters are - Kasia, 31(I know she will be glad that I told you her age)and the last but not least, Courtney (28).

Courtney, 28
Kasia and Courtney have not met each other but they pray for each other as if they have.  (Facebook is a wonderful thing) On December 7th, Kasia comes back to America to go to Seminary. Courtney comes to see us on December 8th.  She is in San Francisco working on another theological degree!  Our home will be full of girls!  There are and will continue to be a lot of females in our house! Needless to say my husband feels quite out numbered but don't let him kid you - he loves every minute of it!

The very morning that Hannah came into this world without joy, Preston sat on a balcony in a hospital in Fort Worth, Texas.  He opened his Bible to that day's reading, "He makes the barren woman abide in the house as a joyful mother of children.  Praise the Lord!" Psalm 113:9  He prayed, "Lord this is either a cruel joke or a promise.  I am taking it as a promise."
Rebekah 16, Rachel 13
That he did.  He stood in the gap for me for months, years and even today.  Seasons change, ministry opportunities and places pass.  But the enduring promises of the Lord are eternal!  No matter what season you are in today - I pray that you can recognize the joy, the blessings and stop to give thanks.  God's timing is always perfect - I keep reminding myself of that as I am in the midst of raising two teenage girls, taking care of my Alzheimer's mom, running a non-profit, and going through menopause!  I want to be joyful!  I want to abide! I pray you do as well!  I hope you will meet me in the forums and let's share the things we are "thankful" for!
Loving and praying for you!
