Girls on the Edge - by Dr. Leonard Sax
Author, psychologist and pediatrician Dr. Leonard Sax speaks about the 21st century challenges facing girls and their parents. Learn how to help daughters, students, and girls in your life deal with social networking, obsessions, body image, early puberty, and stress. The event is sponsored by the Ellis Parent Association with promotional support from The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Job One for Educators: The Child
Children depend on their grown-ups to do the right thing, to make good decisions, and to keep them safe. In this free luncheon, Sherry M. Cleary, Executive Director of the New York Early Childhood Professional Development Institute, engages educators in a discussion about stewarding this trust and the implicit responsibility.

The Midwife Center for Birth and Women's Health - Pittsburgh Filmmakers Screening of "Freedom for Birth"
Join the good folks from The Midwife Center for Birth and Women's Health in a screening of "Freedom for Birth," a film that reframes human rights as the most pressing issue in childbirth today. In many places throughout the world, women are denied the right of autonomy over their own bodies in the process of childbirth. The film addresses these human rights abuses, and calls for radical reform in the world's maternity systems.

Center for Victims - 2012 Talk it Together
In celebration of International Conflict Resolution Day, come together to support the Center for Victims by attending multiple training sessions aimed to focus on public discourse and civility, as well as breakout sessions of your choice focusing on skills to help facilitate difficult conversations. Because declining civility in public discourse affects everyone in our society, this program will be of interest to many groups of people - both in the nonprofit and for-profit sectors.

Chatham University - Andrea James Speaking in Honor of GLBTIQ Awareness Month
Transgender writer, director, producer, and activist Andrea James will speak in celebration of GLBTIQ (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, and Queer) Awareness Month. James will discuss her perspective on the need to improve the relationship between the feminist movement and the trans community through the media. The discussion will also consider the ways in which greater gender roles are reinforced to the extent that they seem "natural" to many people and the way in which this institutionalized sexism affects us all. She will also discuss using the media for social justice purposes by discussing the reasoning and techniques employed in some of her own media messaging.
Andrea has worked as an activist and writer since the 1990s. Among many other achievements and projects, she founded GenderMedia Foundation and serves on the Board of Directors for TransYouth Family Allies, a non-profit that helps minors and their families with issues related to gender identity and expression.

Anchorpoint Counseling Ministry - Boundaries with Kids: How & When to Set Them (For parents with children ages 10 - 18)
Join the conversation presented by Joan Wolf Schenker, M. Ed. exploring parenting topics to assist parents in the most difficult task of all - raising kids! Joan is a certified school counselor as well as the Community Education Director for Anchorpoint. She will cover topics including why kids need parents who set boundaries, the three avenues of influence, and obstacles to teaching boundaries at home.
