 Answer Here!

Dear ,

I don't know about you, but it feels like we dove into 2012 and haven't looked back.  Is it possible that tomorrow is February?  Yes it is, and thankfully that means we have 11 more months to make this year count.  We look forward to seeing you soon and encourage you to get involved.

What's coming up?  I am glad you asked, because there are a few exciting things:
  • February 14--Meet & Greet, hosted by the membership committee at Panera (on Centre Ave in Shadyside); Register Now!
Earlier this month, I was nominated for a Leadership Award through the Coro MLK Awards, and although I didn't win, I wanted to pass on my heartfelt thanks to everyone who was there and who supported the event.  Congrats to our good friends at the Women and Girls Foundation on their win!

Finally, visit our facebook page for the things we are passing on, reading, and recommending on a daily basis!

Sincerely,

Heather Mediate, Program Director

Fourth Annual Girls Coalition Conference
Elevate the Conversation. Inspire Collaboration and Action.
March 28, 2012
; 8:30am - 4:00pm

This day-long conference will provide follow-up to the 2011 focus on negotiation and the PROGRESS partnership, and will use film and other media as a catalyst for discussing the issues that effect girls, as well as innovative ways for engaging girls. The Girls Coalition is working with WQED, and through the Women & Girls Lead project, to create this dynamic event.

The event will feature two keynote speakers, (who will also sit on a panel together following lunch):

Additional breakout sessions will include topics such as:

  • Entertainment Technology as a catalyst for girl specific programming
  • Gender stereotypes, including discussion about women in athletics and topics related to power, strength, beauty and traditional notions of femininity
  • How to effectively integrate data collection and analysis into programmatic decision-making
  • Redefining Business & Beauty (adapted from the October 2011 event)-a follow-up/deeper look at the unique issues that impact African American girls related to health and wellness, education, and the intersection of race and gender
  • Young women and the juvenile justice system
  • Music, messaging, and more

Finally, the day will conclude with an intentional networking session and dessert reception, where we are challenging attendees to start the conversations that will lead to collaborations and to develop next steps for the tools and resources they have received throughout the day.

When:  March 28, 2012; 8:30am - 4:00pm
Where:  Doubletree Monroeville
